The Blame Game

Dems control congress and they're going home without a vote on tax rates. Of course because it's a lose lose situation for them. They can't vote to raise taxes on the "rich" because they know these people are not rich at all but just hard working people who create jobs and wealth. They can't vote to keep the "Bush Tax Cuts" in place because that would validate the person they need to blame for every ill the country is suffering right now in order to have a chance to win any elections. It's a tough political pickle to be in so..... they've decided to punt. Really it was their only option. Now they will continue to claim that everything is the fault of the previous administration and try to convince everyone that voting for the republicans will be worse....somehow.

So how about we let Thomas Sowell bring some clarity to the situation.

The last time the federal government had a budget surplus, Bill Clinton was president, so it was called "the Clinton surplus." But Republicans controlled the House of Representatives, where all spending bills originate, for the first time in 40 years. It was also the first budget surplus in more than a quarter of a century.

By what possible standard are the top 1% not rich. They are rich by definition.

Good of you to acknowledge that the last surplus was under Clinton. Of course you credit the Republicans, although they also controlled Congress (and the Presidency) for most of the Bush years too.

I don't know the stats or percentages but i do know this.

everyone who makes 251k per year is not rich.

The acknowledgement was Sowell's and the blame or credit as it were of course goes to those in charge.

That's the point of the story. I really can't spell it out any simpler for you, just try not to color outside the lines.

I think Sowell lost Gary at the part about the Constitution....
