Maybe it was the cynic in me, but my doubts as to the seriousness of the upcoming Live Earth concerts seems to have been without merit. The enormity of this event lead me to believe that the "carbon footprint" it would leave behind in the wake of its hundred dollar ticket stubs would do more for the record sales of the artists involved as well as lining the pockets of Al Gore and his cronies than to have any meaningful positive impact on our environment.
My skepticism, once again, seems to have been unfounded, and I apologize to the hippies for that.
See, apparently they are going to ask all in attendance to sign a Seven Point Pledge in a plea not unlike the woodstockian kumbaya chant of "no more rain" and speaking of which, is it just me or does the greenie naturists disdain for inclement weather seem a tad hypocritical and a textbook case of fair weather ideology? -- while I always the contrarian must side with Mr Edward Rabbitt on this one and concede that I too love a rainy night I love to hear the thunder watch the lightning when it lights up the sky. But thats just me, what can I say Im an equal opportunity environmentalist.
Ok back to the pledge, did I mention that it has seven points. While maybe not as detailed as Richard Cunningham's masterful twelve point plan, it certainly has the stones to be more effective than, say, a six minute ab workout... so its got that going for it.
But I gots to thinking...
Why no mention of Al Gores proposed carbon tax increase?
Point 8: I want to pay higher taxes
Yeah, I guess it doesn't have the same ring to it as -- I wish the world was full of rainbows, unicorns and rivers of whiskey.
Could it be that these concerts are nothing more than self-fellating showboating at its worst whose only purpose is publicity whoring for those involved, selling hundred dollar tickets fiddy dollar t-shirts made in third world sweat shops and ten dollar HtwoO's to its flock, increased record sales for the artists involved and lining the pockets of Al Gore and his cronies.
EE-Aw!!!
