If you care about your country you do what you think is right whether or not it's popular with your party. A prime example would be Joe Leiberman who was booted from his party and risked his reelection to stand for what he believed was right. The current president is another example. His party is pissed at him, his popularity (according to the polls) is at record lows and has been for years but he sticks to his guns because he believes it's the right thing for the country. The opposite of standing for what you believe in is the new majority in congress and in particular the new head of the intelligence committee Rep. Silvestre Reyes, who a month ago said he thought we needed to add 20-30 thousand troops in Iraq, and now says it's "unthinkable"! What changed in the month since he said that? Well the President proposed adding more troops of course. The democrat party is the anti- Bush/say whatever we have to say to stay in power party. That's what they stand for and the suckers on the left follow them like sheep.
Tough month
On Dec. 5, Newsweek magazine touted an interview with then-incoming House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rep. Silvestre Reyes as an "exclusive." And for good reason. "In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq," the story began, Mr. Reyes "said he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops as part of a 'stepped up effort to dismantle the militias.' " "We have to consider the need for additional troops to be in Iraq, to take out the militias and stabilize Iraq," the Texas Democrat said to the surprise of many, "I would say 20,000 to 30,000."

Harry Reid (amongst others) said he'd be fine with a surge a month ago as well.
We are not talking about fringe characters like Murtha or Kerry, these are men in leadership positions and they have no frickin idea where they stand regarding the single most important issue facing this country today. I mean besides criticizing Bush of course
Thats what the Sheehans and the Moores are for...we should expect more from our leadership than to just cry wolf all day. Sometimes somebody needs to kill the wolf.
I just dont understand how the dem rank and file dont feel like giant suckers as their party betrays them constantly as a rule not an exception. Its what they do.
I have a new name for the sheep...
The Baaaah-thist Party
I am not going to defend Rep. Silvestre Reyes, who I thought was an idiot when he advocated more troops, just as I thought that Bush was an idiot when he advocated more troops. (But then I already thought that Bush was an idiot.) By the way, did you see the news story that Iran had offered major concessions in 2003, on much the same terms that we are demanding of them now, and Cheney turned it down?
