Anita noone argues with the purpose of the UN. They just have a piss poor record of implementing it. The League of Nations had an altruistic purpose as well, but they failed miserably and were dismantled. The UN have proved to be just as incompetent. Whatever purpose they may have had, they have failed in acheiving it with horrific corruption laden consequences. They should suffer the same fate as the LON.

Donsky, we PAY for the U.N. we don't RUN it. If indeed you're much more adequate analysis is correct, then i would submit to you that there is NO WAY that the world position of idiot states like Iran would be as powerful as it is, and the same goes for russia, france, etc. The U.N. gives a much bigger profile to the little guys and the despots who frankly should be relegated to irrelevance, but aren't because they get a world stage to put forth their "bush is the devil" view points.
You think Bolton was a bad choice because he doesn't play well with others, i think he was the best choice for the same reasons. The U.N. needs less horse shit and more horse power, but with a nice guy diplomat you just have business as usual. I guess that's what you're in favor of, but i'm a little bit tired of it.

And, in fact, the United States has a history of withholding its dues (thanks to those wonderful evangelicals in Congress) because the organization provides family planning and educational support to member nations, in particular women (i.e., they provide condoms and advise women of ALL the options available to them, including that they need not be raped by their husbands).

lily, i don't take this all that seriously ... i discovered something about myself recently when i watched a show on animal planet about wolves in the wild: there are alpha wolves and omega wolves, and it has no bearing on gender, size, or even intelligence -- you're either born an alpha or you're not.
now, you and the donkey are kind of alpha wolves. i'm kind of an omega wolf, which i can live with. the omega wolf, while he/she doesn't get as much meat as the alpha wolf (and is therefore thinner --- don't be jealous !!!) tends to observe and laugh at it all. it's certainly a less stressful role, if less successful.
