The movie Wall Street was always one of my least favorite movies. The message was clear, if you're successful it's because you cheated and you abused the little guy. The good guy is the union man, the small guy who fights against these evil doers, and Bud Fox is the prodigal son who turns against his blue collar upbringing but comes back in the end when he knows he's done wrong. Hollywood used to just make up stuff like that, now they do "documentaries" that are so one sided and dishonest that it's laughable. I think Sowell hit's the nail on the head with this one.
It is not really news that Hollywood is still producing anti-business movies, but there is a certain irony in it nevertheless.
Although these movies tap a certain envy and resentment of corporate wealth, that large corporate wealth comes from far more modest individual amounts of money from about half the population of the United States, which owns stocks and bonds -- either directly or because money paid into pension funds or other financial intermediaries are used to buy stocks and bonds.
The irony is that the average Hollywood star who is making anti-business movies is far wealthier than the average owners of those businesses, who are half the population of the country.

Right-o!
I'm sure you would prefer a movie where the CEO of Halliburton was the good guy.
Thomas Sowell is a MAJOR tool.
I believe in free enterprise. I wish we had it in America. The richest 1% (you know the people who got the tax cuts) pay lip service to it, but deep down they think the free market is for suckers. They bet on sure things, thanks to political connections, lobbyists, and corruption.
First of all Anita, Sowell is a genius, and secondly Donsky, he's a terrific writer, maybe you need help in your reading comprehension.
Krugman is a dickweed, but putting that aside i also think his conclusions are wrong.
Also, i didn't go to UPS university, but i did WORK for UPS at one time. So maybe you're right about my education but i still don't see any problem with this article.
