"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad predicted the collapse of Israel, the U.S. and Britain, attacking what he called their ``oppressive behavior.''
``The Zionist regime is on a steep downhill towards collapse and disgrace,'' Ahmandinejad told supporters at a rally of Basiji militia forces near Tehran today. In a reference to the U.S. and U.K., he said ``the collapse and crumbling of your devilish rule has started.''

Asking this guy for help in Iraq, as some are suggesting is like asking your wife to pick out lingerie for your girlfriend's birthday.

I don't even believe that anyone would suggest such a stupid thing. It is literally ididotic.
oops idiotic
yeah, i'm sure he'd work to achieve what's best for iraq.
The President of Iraq has asked Iran for help so I guess he is an idiot.
He's and idiot? Probably, but more likely he's afraid that the U.S. is about to abandon him and he's reaching out to his enemies in order to survive.
Now i wonder why he would think we're about to cut and run on him?????????
I think the situation in Iraq will continue to get worse whether we stay or leave. We don't have enough troops there to stabilize the situation but we may have enough to further destabilize the situation.
But you have a plan: victory, right?
Zontar I THINK you're wrong, and even if you're right then the answer would be to add more troops, not pussy out!
I THINK, victory is not only acheivable but necessary.
I THINK, that the dems don't have the stomach to lead the war on terror.
I THINK that if we cut and run it will be a disaster not only over there, but over here.
And finally, to answer your question.....Yes, victory is the plan.
From reading the news I see that we might add 20-30,000 troops temporarily but obviously that won't be enough to make a difference.
And what's your plan for victory?
Iran is already helping the Shia to defend themselves against the Baathists. You may call it destabilization, chaos, whatever but the Shia, who are being slaughtered by the thousands would call it self defense.
the plan for victory is quite simple really.
KILL THE ENEMY.
As I thought, you don't have a plan. Don't you see that there is no plan of action that is at all likely to lead to victory in Iraq?
And Miss C, both Sunnis and Shiites are slaughtering the other side. It's a civil war and we are stuck in the middle, unable to do much of anything.
Zontar do you think i have a detailed outline of the exact military moves we should make?
Sorry to disappoint you, but i am not a military expert. I will defer to the pentagon for a detailed plan. Pussying out is your plan, but i don't think it's a good one, and i didn't expect you to give me extensive details on troop movements.
Your plan is losing, my plan is winning. I like my plan better.
Well, the Pentagon has told Bush that there is no military solution in Iraq. I'm not asking for a detailed military solution but "kill the enemy" isn't a plan. We are killing the enemy, some of them anyway, allthough probably creating more than we are killing, and still losing this war. I think you are confusing goals(winning)with plans.
I am all for victory. I would also like to do Paris Hilton--ain't gonna happen.
Couldnt wait til Christmas morning huh? I see youre already breaking out the new lauer talking point.
I just dont understand liberals.
Wes Clark and Bill Clinton are hailed as heroes for ending the sectarian strife or the "civil war" (if you insist)in the Balkans, yet they now lambast Bush for trying to do the same in Iraq.
Im throwing the bullshit flag.
and another thing
...she aint that good
Gary if you're going to make stuff up, make it less obvious. Like tell people you are handsome (that's the one i make up.) Don't tell me the pentagon says they can't win.
Perhaps I gave the Pentagon too much credit for intelligence or honesty, but there is no military solution in Iraq. And Paris Hilton should be so lucky.
Well if YOU say so gary it MUST be true. Plus you said "honestly" so that means this time you're not even making it up.
Anyway, like vietnam we can't be defeated militarily, we can only lose if we pussy out.
The only question in my mind is whether or not there will be people hanging from the helicopters when we leave.
Again with the Vietnam references. Let it go man. Just let it go.
Since this is now a "civil war" as you have said yourself, wouldnt Kosovo be a more recent and better comparison?
Speaking of which...I wouldnt be against a three month carpet bombing campaign of Iraq to clear out some riff raff.
Kosovo might be a better comparison but I don't know much about Kosovo. We won there didn't we? Put Sloboboboan Miulaijtwhch or whatever his name was on trial?
Victory?
"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" - Matthew (ch. XVI, v. 26)
You dont know much about Kosovo yet are an expert on something that happened over thirty years ago? Im not about to educate you but stay tuned for my upcoming post on the subject and maybe you'll learn a thing or two.
In all due respect Gary, that statement just about sums up the entire left's position. You know very little and care even less about our nations history. You cherry pick what best suits your argument. Vietnam is nothing like Iraq except in the fact that its a war and the pacifist left is trying to lose it for us. You are stuck in the 70's (maybe it was the brown acid)and you and your ilks mentality is of a negative anti-American sentiment, which would be fine in and of itself but your ideology is not based on facts but on feelings and quite frankly I can no longer consider you a worthy adversary in our political discussions. In other words, I no longer think you are full of shit, I know you are full of shit.
Or is it that Kosovo was Clinton's mistake and you choose to ignore it?
Either way it makes it very difficult for me to take you serious.
If Kosovo was a mistake then the lesson must be not to intervene in civil wars.
No. Its to put American interests first. We have significant interest in the outcome of Iraq. The lesson to be learned from Kosovo is to back the side that doesnt want to wage a jihad on the west.
If thats a riddle Anita, I think I know the answer...
The whole world.
I really don't think the US should get involved in civil wars. We did in the Balkans because of humanitarian consideratins, reports of ethnic cleansing and war crimes. Some now say these reports were exaggerated. I haven't studied the history enough to make a determination.
I agree that vital US interests are at stake in Iraq which is why it is a shame that Bush will probably continue to fuck it up.
well, if you want to call it a riddle, i guess that's ok. but i think jesus spoke / taught more in terms of parables rather than riddles.
i don't think there is a clear-cut answer here. my response is more that is it worth the continuing loss of life and limb (american and otherwise); the continuing destruction of families and homes (american and otherwise); america's loss of respect around the world; the american's government's loss of faith and confidence by a large percentage of its citizenry ... and so on and so on.
I was unaware that Jesus was the author. I thought you cited Matthew, a well known jokester.
On a more serious note...
Yes. Yes it is. I believe that the safety and the sanctity of the American way of life is worth everything you mentioned. I must remind you that we did not start this fight, and although mistakes have been made in conducting it (as there will be in the future) it is of paramount importance that we continue to defend ourselves.
I could give two shits what the world's opinion of us is. We are the most benevolent and charitable nation in the history of mankind and people still dont like us (even before Iraq and Bush). Theres a word for that...its called jealousy, so fuck them.
Regarding the large percentage of American citizenry that has lost faith in our government. Can you blame them? They do as they are told. They are the same millions that watch American Idol, Awards Shows, and read People magazine. They do what their television tells them to do, which is hate their government (as long as its Republican)and root against the war effort. I blame them no more than I blame the sheep being prodded by the shepherd. Its the shepherd (liberal democrat leadership and the main stream liberal media)that I have the problems with.
Sheeple...... so true
