''What helped the British in this case is the ability to be nimble, to be fast, to be flexible, to operate based on fast-moving information,'' Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said.

Obviously the Bush administration has neither the intelligence or competence for that.

I do not object to wire-tapping possible terrorists--just get a warrant from the FISA court. The FISA law allows warrants even after the fact. What's the problem?

The FISA law is the law passed by the Congress to deal with just this sort of situation. It is not unreasonable to hold Bush to his oath to faithfully execute the laws. This is still America.

Its cuz all my leftist co-workers have been looking at kiddie porn. They are terrified that someone will find out. That is why they are all against the gubment "spying" on people.

actually gary, the fisa laws weren't passed to deal with just this sort of situation. the fisa laws are outdated and were written long before there was email, blogs, and cell phones.

Also, you seem to think that getting a warrant from the fisa court is like getting a warrant on Law and Order, but it's not really that simple. I read somewhere that the paperwork to get a warrant is as thick as a encyclopedia, and then of course the judge or judges have to review them etc.

An encyclopedia, really, that must be true because you read it somewhere.

If the FISA law needs to be updated because of emails and cell phones then I am sure the Republican Congress would go along with that.

You seem to be saying that the law is inconvenient so the President should disregard it.

that's exactly what i'm saying. as long as it's a republican president.

or maybe what i'm saying is the same thing i've been saying all along, which is:

the patriot act SUPERCEDES fisa. The patriot act is LAW, but the aclu doesn't think it should be and so they make up crazy stories about it and claim that we're all in danger of losing our freedom, and YOU believe them.

I was only pointing out to you that it's not a simple matter to get a fisa warrant, and by the time we get one it could be too late.

Finally, i said i read it somewhere because i did, and it was a while ago so i don't remember where it was.

Do some research gary, look it up and tell me what is required and how long it normally takes.

Finally, i want to remind whoever gives a shit that the president kept congress up to date on ALL methods he was using and exactly what was going on. The dems didn't have a problem with it until it was exposed by the ny slimes, so that's all you need to know about thier convictions and their attitude toward protecting the country.
