Wake Up Call

How many times have we seen Americans brutally tortured? How many times have we seen these animals in Iraq and Afghanistan target and blow up innocent civilians? How many times have we seen terrorists and "insurgents" try to hide behind children and in mosques?

Now how many times have we seen these "impartial" organizations like Amnesty International denounce these actions? How many marches have they organized to protest these actions?
Why don't they feature this stuff on their websites? I went to Amnesty International website this morning, and NO mention of these soldiers being tortured, yet the LEFT in this country, and some readers here like ANITA, and Ron Nasty, use these groups as their source to prove that America is torturing prisoners. WAKE UP!

Interestingly silent on this and other atrocities carried out by the insurgents in Iraq are the “human rights” groups who seem to spend every day accusing the United States of torture, war crimes, and various human rights violations. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has called the Iraq war “illegal,” and John Pace, former UN chief of Human Rights for Iraq, has said that human rights conditions are “as bad now as they were under Saddam,” but was it America that filled mass graves with hundreds of thousands of murdered Iraqi civilians? Last month, Human Rights Watch again accused the US of “brutalizing Muslim suspects in the name of the war on terror,” but how many times have Americans strapped bombs to their own chests and purposely detonated themselves in a large crowd of civilians? Amnesty International’s website highlights America’s use of “torture or other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” against terrorist captives, but how many prisoners—Muslim or otherwise—have Americans brutally beheaded?

1. i've never been to the amnesty international website.

2. descriptions of the conditions at and the treatment of prisoners at gitmo (and to a certain extent) other detention camps have been reported, and reported again, by numerous american and international news agencies.

3. you seem to be obsessed with beheading. behead, behead, behead. shut up! so no, rhino, the american and coalition forces do not appear to have beheaded any prisoners. that does not make them saintly or justify some documented cases of torture inflicted by some people. some people. not all people. some. by saying that does not mean i hate america. or love the terrorists. it is what it is.

4. i cannot believe how upsetting this is.

1.you read the ny times for your information, they get their info from these bullshit groups who HATE America!

2. I AM obsessed with beheadings, because that is the preffered method of torture from our enemies! AND i watched the video of an American CIVILIAN citizen who was beheaded while he pleaeded for his life! (no outrage from amnesty international)

3. I CAN believe how upsetting it is. And i truly find it disgusting that you can compare us to them. As i said in the comments on the previous post, we don't condone torture. If incidents happen the perpetrators are punished! for our enemies torture is a regular practice!

in closing, I never once, nor do I think anyone else here, including Ron Nasty, ever compared what the US has done at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo to what the likes of Zarhawi did to Daniel Pearl or dozens of others.

Like I said, I don't follow Amnesty International. I get my information from a variety of news sources ... and straight-forward 'news feeds' from Reuters, UPI, etc., are in fact quite reliable from what I understand. Whether you get them from The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune or the BBC.

I think you know where I'm coming from on this. You know I'm not a reactionary and I listen to both (or all fifteen) sides of any story and in fact very rarely (if ever) get involved in this level of debate. It's too messy. My ultimate motto: make love, not war. And wear lots of patchouli. And birkenstocks (when you're not wearing stilettos and thigh highs, that is).

I'll try to leave the heated debate up to Lily and LOC and that handsome man, Ron Nasty. They are the pro's at this. Not me. Yet.

Enjoy your day Rhinoculous.

Anita. again you're wrong, or you're lying. You said:

rhino, you are missing the fact that the gitmo prisoners were physically AS WELL AS psychologically abused. while perhaps nobody's 'head was cut off at gitmo,' (or at least not that we know of) it is a fact that many of these prisoners were subjected to sophisticated psychological abuse, such as light and sensory deprivation, brutal interrogations, sexual humiliation and far more. while that may not sound quite as inflammatory as 'choppin' a guy's head off' ... these types of methods can lead to insanity and and even suicide for the victim. while you may think that those pictures of the naked men on the floor with the woman pointing at them was not so bad ... well in some muslim cultures that is a fate worse than death.

Anita you're trying to make these things equal! And go back and read nastys comments, he's more blunt than you!

Here' what nasty had to say:

Once again, the right wing fail to take responsibility for the actions caused by their actions. These two were tortured because the current regime made it okay for every one to use torture, by doing so themselves!

SO TELL ME AGAIN ANITA HOW YOU AND NASTY DON'T COMPARE THE TWO............... if you want to lie to yourself, that's fine but don't write it down because then you're lying to me.

I thought you libs were supposed to side with the moral high ground. Oh thats right, only if it agrees with your politics. Churchill calling 9/11 victims "little eichmans" = good bcuz you agree, Coulter calling widows "harpies" = bad bcuz you disagree. Its truly sickening.

Well Ill let you hippies in on a little secret. The United States of America IS the moral high ground, and its a shame your hatred for Bush has blinded you to that fact and that you are willing to denigrate the lives of American soldiers for political points.

There is no justification for the comparison between the beheadings, torture, and rape of western soldiers, journalists, and civilians with "advanced pyschological mental torure" aka being mean to them.

From a historical perspective...would you justify the Bataan Death March because we detained some Japanese during WWII?

Would you?

There is a huge frickin difference between wrong and evil. Dont you get it?
