The Subversive Plan
To Ditch The Electoral College
May 8, 2006by Phyllis Schlafly

A plot is afoot to change the constitutional form of government in the United States by ditching the Electoral College. John Anderson, Birch Bayh and John Buchanan, three losers who were defeated in the 1980 Reagan landslide, are scheming to change the U.S. Constitution without complying with the amendment process. cont'd

Until we can revoke the rights of blacks and women to vote this will have to do.

Again I find my boyfriends over here. LOC, get home and clean the garage you whoring bitch.

I won't drone as I am a reformed woman now but in short, not only do I hate the electoral college but I hate the federal government itself and think a delegation of governors would suffice. Now pass the pretzels.

Once again you jackasses miss the point. Suppose NYC or LA becomes a megalopolis with a population of 50 million+. Dinkins Jr would be President. Its fair representation and the purest form of states rights. Niggers Chicks Canadians and Jews shouldnt vote...until then...LETS GO NORTH DAKOTA

eb, i've noticed you are not very nice to your boyfriends. particularly when they wander off the blue republic ranch. you should be careful, you don't want to be cited for domestic violence. and then there is the whole palimony issue to consider.

Here's the question for you Anti electoral college knuckleheads.

Do you want MOB RULE?

The U.S. is a REPUBLIC. That is why it works. That is why we need the electoral college.

I didn't read the article so if she makes this point already i apologize for bringing it up again.

No actually i don't apologize, because i am in the majority here at the aurora and i am right and you are wrong according to the votes. Mob rule RULES at the aurora.

The electoral college is not a relic, and if you're trying to say that the federal govt. has too much power over the states, i agree. I am very much in favor of states rights.

More importantly, now that i read the article, the plan is to force states to give their votes to the perceived winner of the popular vote instead of who the people actually voted for! so how does their vote count exactly?

In defense of the electoral college.

James Madison’s famous Federalist No. 10 makes clear that the Founders fashioned a republic, not a pure democracy. To be sure, they knew that the consent of the governed was the ultimate basis of government, but the Founders denied that such consent could be reduced to simple majority or plurality rule. In fact, nothing could be more alien to the spirit of American constitutionalism than equating democracy will the direct, unrefined will of the people.

Recall the ways our constitution puts limits on any unchecked power, including the arbitrary will of the people. Power at the national level is divided among the three branches, each reflecting a different constituency. Power is divided yet again between the national government and the states. Madison noted that these twofold divisions -- the separation of powers and federalism -- provided a “double security” for the rights of the people.

What about the democratic principle of one person, one vote? Isn’t that principle essential to our form of government? The Founders’ handiwork says otherwise. Neither the Senate, nor the Supreme Court, nor the president is elected on the basis of one person, one vote. That’s why a state like Montana, with 883,000 residents, gets the same number of Senators as California, with 33 million people. Consistency would require that if we abolish the Electoral College, we rid ourselves of the Senate as well. Are we ready to do that?

I have to agree with Donsky here...why shouldn't our votes count just as much as someone from the midwest...I mean we're the only region of the country where people work predominantly for independant industry and not the government. I'm not saying that someone who works for the forestry department in Yellowstone park shouldn't have a vote but it shouldn't count more than mine. People who work for the government have alterior motives when they cling to the status quo.

PS - Privatize the USPS and they'll stop shooting each other.

fly, that argument makes no sense. Everyone has biases based on their own situation.

Donkeyhue, I thought your first comment was funny, but the second one is offensive and racist.

I have ZERO problem punishing the urban voter. In fact if I had my druthers Californians and New Yorkers wouldnt even be allowed to vote at the federal level.

I apologize Gary. You are right it was insensitive and racist and worst of all I left out the queers.

EE-Aw!!!

gary said...

It was insensitive and racist and worst of all not funny.

ESPECIALLY the paddys and micks, or at the very least make them take a breathalyser before entering the voting booth.

But Gary I KNOW Donkey is not racist.

Electoral College:

The 6 New England states together have about as many electoral votes as New York State not including New Jersey.

donsky sorry i'm so late getting back, i've been busy.

Heres the deal. If there's a constitutional ammendment, then that's fine with me, but if you're trying to get around that like these people are and thwarting the process, then its bullshit.
