The first annual Aurora mixed social was a resounding hippie free success. It was great to meet so many readers I didnt know we had. Donsky's band kicked ass and the Continental was rocking (sorry dude it wasnt Freedom Rock). Its a shame that some of our regulars Fly Lily Anita and Rhino werent able to make it, but we drank a few shots in their name. The next annual meeting will be next month at my place and Scattergories will definitely not be on the menu. E f in Aw. Now say that last sentence faster.
EE-Aw!!!
UPDATE: Ive been informed that Scattergories in fact will indeed be on the menu

that's what is wrong with the Aurora. Get your double-speak down and have your annual meetings on a WEEKLY basis. Dude, I really like FREEDOM ROCK...
Next week it is. See y'all tomorrow.
The question on the minds of all the ladies: was Warlike there?
Donkey, I didn't read the Aurora the last couple of days...during my month end close (I hate math)...but I did go out last night. Henn's in Mo'town had it's everything must go sale as they are tearing it down (all beer & shot half price). Yes, ye old man bar of Morristown, NJ is being torn down and since Jesus must be busy, I hear it will take the carpenter they are using t4 months to rebuild my favorite temple of booze. For those of you who have spent time in N.West NJ, Henn's was a landmark and it's dirty charm will be missed...The Continental has a similar charm and I am sorry I missed out on the festivities...next time.
PS - Is WL really the Fabio of the blogosphere? Good for him...
BTW - I hate Willie Randolph....he cost us another one last night.
What are you kidding? It was willies fault that your closer sucks?
Put that coffee down wagner, coffee is for rivera!
Warlike has this sexy absentee mystique about him.
Morristown! Hell, we could practically smack each other in person. I have family all over Jersey too.
I don't hit girls...
And Rhino, when you play teams in your own division 19 times a year, you cannot use your closer every game. And the rule is try not to back to back games...Heilman is a set up man but when the Yanks were good didn't they let their set up man close games when they were cruising (i.e. Mariano started as a set up man for the Yanks) It's a long season but Willie seems to lose sight of that sometimes...hopefully he will get better but I doubt it. As for Wagner, he is a first ballot HOF'er and he used the song before he got here...Zimmerman (not Dylan) is a projected All-Star, sometimes you have to tip your cap. Jorge Julio however is garbage right now and Willie should have taken him out after the first two runs scored but instead he sat on his hands until they were down five runs. Frank Robinson sent his pitching coach out the next inning after the lead off man got on...Willie, once again, was outmanaged more than the Mets were outplayed.
I heard that Metallica actually helped recruit Wagner as some of them are big Mets fans. Their manager made a statement to that effect, and apparently there were some back room deals involving scheduling Metallica shows in NY to accomondate Wagner
whoa... take it easy there pal, wagner is a first ballot HOF?
He's been in the majors about the same amount of time as rivera, and has about 100 less saves. And mariano did it all in the bronx.
Rivera is a first ballot hall of famer.
Wagner isn't in the same class.
i don't care about the song, but if i was the mets i wouldn't want him to use it, just because in NY its associated with rivera, no one cares that he's been using it in philly or whatever.
First of all Mariano is great, best ever. I never said he wasn't but Wagner does have the most saves of any left hander. His strike out ratio is sick and he is great...I think Mariano would tell you that. Plus Mariano has gotten quite a few of his saves playing for the Yankees (all of them accounts for a 96 save dif. Each were set up men for two years) who give him a lot more save oppurtunities than say Houston for ten years & Philly for two...The Mets aren't going to tell Wagner to stop playing the song just like the Yankees aren't going to tell Arod to stop wearing lip stick during games.
PS - batters actually hit for a higher average against Mariano (.212) than they do against Wagner (.186)
fly, you're fighting a losing battle.
first of all, the mets should get their own shit. i just drove into the city and mike and the mad dog were killing wagner!
Here's what happened, apparently after the game he made a comment like
" i guess i'll give the song back now because mariano has never blown a save"
is this guy kidding? he's gonna get crushed in NY. His "greatness" anywhere else doesn't mean shit if he's going to challenge rivera!
he can't hold mariano's jock!
Also, and i couldn't even believe i heard this, they were saying that the mets fans were doing the ROLL CALL last night!!! Are you kidding me? The sandman, and the roll call are Yankee Stadium!
Can you get more JV than that?
For the non nyers, the Roll Call is when the yankee stadium bleacher bums chant each of the players names in the first inning, and the players always acknowledge them. it's a yankee tradition, and it was invented there. kind of like how they throw opposing home run balls back onto the field at wrigley. It's known to be a yankee thing. And so is the song.
Im liking this Wagner kid more and more. His behavior sure cant be described as pusillanimous. Fuck the Yankees and Riviera.
yeah, i'm liking him too. i'm thinking that he'll be asking for a trade by mid season when the media just relentlessly pounds him into the dirt with rivera comparisons.
If he or the mets have any brains at all, they'll just give up the song already, and if the mets fans have ANY self respect they'll stop doing the roll call immediately.
It works both ways. Yankee fans stole the idea of liking baseball from Mets fans. You cant hide from your past Fakee fans. I remember the 80's...do you forget so soon?
That usually shuts them up...
Rhino doesn't even know Shea...there's no bleachers you idiot. It's called the picnic area. And they don't sell those tix to every game so if indeed this happened (which I doubt), it was probably some Yankee fans who jumped on the band wagon. Rivera has blown every big game he has been in since 2000. I still think he's great but at least be honest, it's the truth either way you slice it.
Just an aside because I remembered it when Rhino mistakenly referred to the picnic area as the bleachers but my brother and I sat out there one Wednesday on a Pepsi night (that's where you get in w/a Pepsi can or bottle on Wednesday games - no charge Rhino - to the picnic area) and the Mets were playing the Ex-pros. Milton Bradley was playing left field and I was just killing him because for one he is an idiot and secondly because I was drunk as a skunk. I didn't think much of it because at the time I thought he was totally deaf. Apparently he is only deaf in one ear and at the end of the top of the seventh, he walked back to the picnic area, gave me the finger and called me an asshole. It was the proudest moment I have ever experienced as a fan.
just one small comment ... err, maybe, two:
1. i am NOT a hippie, never was and never will be - i think of myself as an independent, free-thinker without an agenda;
2. it's anita, not ana.
;)
yeah fly, you should learn how to read, i said the bleachers are in YANKEE stadium. You know, the house that Ruth built! not shea, the house that rusty staub built.
Mariano is the greatest closer of all time, and a first ballot hall of famer, wagner will be lucky to survive the pressure cooker that is ny for a whole season.
Babe Ruth is dead.
Roll Call is something they've done at Yankee stadium for like ten years...that sounds like tradition but you did point out is done in the bleachers but didn't distinguish that Shea doesn't even have bleachers (I still think this sounds like more bullshit you beleived because someone else told you it was true...did you copy and paste it from somewhere else...probably)
Yankee stadium was empty in the 80's...how do I know? I was there pretty much every weekend as my Dad & my best friends Dad have had tickets since before you were born...no roll call then. No winning. No fans...they were all at Shea.
Mariano is the best. I said it before you did...however the song is Metallica's song you nitwit...I doubt they care if some Panamanian preacher plays it as long as they get paid.
Be honest, you know about as much about baseball as I know about your favorite game "foozball" so you can't win here. Mariano and the Yankees have blown every big game they have been in over the last six years. They can't even beat the A's so how do you expect they'll fair against the superior teams back east?
It's baseball season biatch and all you can say is that you feel undercut by the fact that our closer is using a song that your closer uses...sounds pathetic but when you get worse every year and the team across town keeps getting better, it's not surprising. I'd make shit up to argue about too if that was the case. Did you wear make-up when you wrestled like your third baseman does when he takes the field? Me thinks you did and I'm sure you came out to some weak ass shit like "Crazy Train" or "Rock & Roll Part II". You probably had a picture of Rob Lowe in your closet like your heroes Corey Haim & Alex Jeter. Do me a favor, keep your man gym semantics to yourself. This is a National League territory and we don't tolerate that type of wussy crap around here.
Anita,
My bad. It has been corrected. Sangria + Beer + Whiskey = Spelling mistakes.
Fly i couldn't give two shits about the yankees, and i don't care about the mets either, except to fuck with you and donkey.
Now, lets get down to your reading skills again. I said i heard about the roll call at shea on the radio, on the mike and the mad dog show! You really are not that smart.
The mets are already the JV team in ny, why would they want to make themselves look even smaller?
You want to compare ticket sales for the yankee's and the mets in the 80's? I wouldn't know how to get the #'s and i wouldn't really want to work that hard, but i would be willing to bet it's pretty close. The mets had a couple of good years in the middle, but thats it.
Seriously, Reading is Fundamental, and get a grip with your JV team.
thanks ...
Dude you are dumb...in the middle? That's what you said. I have already told you to shut up so do it. The Mets won the World Series in 86 and the NL East in 88...They were in division races every year from 84-90 during which time they won at least 91 games every year (winning 100+ three times). Look it up you lazy fool before you say something else retarded. The Yankees didn't have one 100 win season except 1980 itself (that being the only year they made the post season in the 80's) and didn't make the post season again until 1996. My reading retention isn't lacking I just wanted to point out your unoriginal ideas. You never say anything period that you thought up on your own. Go copy and paste a Michelle Malkin article. Stick with what you know. The Yankees were mediocre to bad in the 80's and that's not even arguable so shut up. You know nothing which you pretty much admitted and you really don't want to work that hard (which is obvious from your copying and pasting posts). I could care less whether you took one thing from M&M (the roll call thing which some other idiot from Long Island probably made up when he called in from his Iroc's car phone) and one other thing from the news (probably the whole Metallica thing which has been on & in every news format from radio to press)...either way you are unoriginal & played out because you have no knowledge of the game itself. Just shut up already and go back to Fox news, The Boot, or whatever teeny bopper site you are trolling at this week.
fly what is wrong with you? you should stick to poetry and other girlie things, because you get emotional just like a woman! fag!
Are you coming at me with the whole "you're not a writer" rebuttal again?
Fly just get over it already, you're argument is really a non starter, i'm just humoring you.
The Yankees are the greatest franchise in sports history, ALL sports. The mets are the second most popular baseball team in NY. and the third most popular team overall in the ny area. behind the yankees and the Giants. They only finish ahead of the lowly jets, and of course the hockey teams, but hockey isn't an american sport so that doesn't really count.
End of discussion, NEXT TOPIC
This is a baseball city ding dong...the Giants are a NJ team or do I have to explain geography to you too? Look who draws more fans a year and who makes more on merchandising. The Yanks and Mets blow away the Giants, Jets, Devils, Knicks, & Nets on all fronts. The NFL is the most popular sport in the country but this is a baseball town.
PS _ I'm just playing too dude. You know I got nothing but love for you but who else is going to argue with me on a Friday! I'll go back and write a poem if you promise to copy and paste an interesting article some time next week...I'll look forward to it.
mets and jets, ny's jv teams. along with the icelanders of course.
Rhino...I dont want to pull rank here, but for the last time. You are Pete Rose'd on the Aurora. You dont know baseball you dont like baseball you dont talk baseball....You are banned. Now go put your leotard on, get on your knees and do some of that man grabbing you are so fond of.
I know baseball, and i like baseball....... at playoff time, when the yankees are playing every year and the mets are wishing they could beat the braves.
Thank you Mr Manwrastler for making our point for us you typical Manhattan "event" fan...you dont care about the game or the teams, just the false sense of accomplishment you feel by being a bandwagon backer of a "winner" Hope that works out for you "champ"
How many Knicks games have you been to this year? Exactly!
I take that back you aint the peoples "champ" youre the peoples "chump"
Now sit down
uh ... the Nets are moving to Brooklyn. how 'bout that?
Said it 4 times fast. E f in Aw x 4 = Phnom Penh + Hanoi = Phanoi??
