So here's the question. Do you believe that a man should have to be responsible for a child that he doesn't want? Shouldn't he be forced to pay child support? What if it was a one night stand? What if he's a professional athlete and some woman is setting him up?
How is it fair that the woman has a choice, but the man doesn't?
More than three decades ago Roe vs. Wade gave women control of their reproductive lives but nothing in the law changed for men. Women can now have sexual intimacy without sacrificing reproductive choice. Women now have the freedom and security to enjoy lovemaking without the fear of forced procreation. Women now have control of their lives after an unplanned conception. But men are routinely forced to give up control, forced to be financially responsible for choices only women are permitted to make, forced to relinquish reproductive choice as the price of intimacy.

Where do I send a check to these guys? Good article!
I already commented on this same topic this morning at Left Of Center so no seconds for you.
Send your check to me, Donkeyhue. I'll be sure to spread your message.
The male had a choice..it's called birth control. He failed to take advantage of that and will have to deal with the consequences of his actions. Boo hoo..poor dude..
All he had to do was put on a rubber..thats it..takes but a few seconds and he wouldn't have to worry about years of financial purgatory for his one night of fun.
Yes dusty but it works both ways. If i'm a stupid man who makes a mistake, i should have the same protections under the law as a stupid woman who makes a mistake. Therefore, since we have abortion on demand, and walmart should have to sell the morning after pill etc. why should i have to pay for my mistake? The woman has a choice, so should i.
Lily,
I didnt realize you received mail at the commune.
Um..perhaps its because its the woman that incubates the fetus. The man, stupid or not, still had a choice. We all have to pay for our mistakes. Its called life.
What kind of protection do you expect for being stupid? Using your analogy, if someone was stupid enough to leave a pot boiling on the stove and he burned down his entire apartment complex, he shouldnt be accountable for his stupidity and how it affected everyone else that lived there?
Or a better one..if a man is stupid enough to leave his loaded gun laying around and his child blows his best friends head off, the man gets a free pass because he was stupid?
I think not.
Stupidity is not a valid reason. Think up another one and get back to me.
I take paypal at the commune. And major credit cards. The commune is just a front for my money laundering, we all use the ruse of creating 'art work' to 'sell' to 'business men'. Oh! Look at the time! Gotta gas up the vw bus for a run to Staten Island.
I hope by "gas up" you mean recycled veggie oil.
Fahrfenugen is Hitler!
i don't need another one dusty. you're comparing apples and oranges.
I'm not saying a man shouldn't be responsible for his actions, i'm saying it should be equal.
If a woman gets pregnant, she has a choice of whether or not to keep the child. If SHE chooses to have the baby against the will of the father, why should HE have to pay for HER choice?
Shouldn't SHE have to pay the consequences of leaving the loaded gun lying around? shouldn't SHE have to pay for burning the house down? Of course, and she does have to pay. equally.
or by gas up maybe you mean plug in. i'm all for electric cars, because we get our electricity from burning coal, and i own some coal stocks that are kicking me in the ass right now!
Your arguement was based on the stupidity of the male, now you change hats.
I restate that the man had an option a CHOICE and refused to utilize it. The consequence of his action is to deal with the reality of child support.
Giving someone a "do over" because of their stupidity is..well..stupid.
All things were equal when they got into the sack..to wear a love glove or not..it was his choice, his penis..not hers.
Sponge maybe?
Birth control pill perhaps?
Nonoxynol-9 no?
Diaphragms?
Takes more than a coat of rubber to make it at thunder road.
You may be Pro-Choice
I am Anti-Phylactic
All the birth control options you list are female options. The love glove is safer than all those options and its a male option. Why do you hold the female alone accountable for birth control?
Love your double standard!
Dusty says:
"All he had to do was put on a rubber..thats it..takes but a few seconds and he wouldn't have to worry about years of financial purgatory for his one night of fun"
Dusty says:
"to wear a love glove or not..it was his choice, his penis..not hers."
I was just pointing out other options, since you laid sole responsibilty for pre coitus preparation on the man
As I said Im Anti-Phylatic, because Danger is my middle name.
Bow wow wow yippe yo yippe yay
well said donkey,
Dusty the point is EQUAL PROTECTION under the law. If a woman has a choice, the man should have a choice.
Aren't you pro choice Dusty? Oh you're only pro choice for a woman? well ok, just so long as you are willing to admit that you're a hypocrite.
Its his choice, his penis..figure it out..if a male chooses not to wear a rubber then he deals with the consequences nine months later. If a male would rather throw caution to the wind and screw sans protection he gives up his right to bitch when junior makes the entrance into the world.
The whole "my body, my choice" includes the males options as well regarding procreation.
How many woman say yeah, I am on the pill and arent? Any intelligent male on a one night stand with a female he doesn't know..nevermind..evidently its over your head or you choose to ignore the obvious.
If a male wants to have his cake and eat it too,i.e., he wants to get laid but hates rubbers..he needs to put his johnson in someone he knows and trusts.
Or live with the consequences since he had the option to protect himself from an unwanted child and chose not to.
Most women hate the contraception options out there, they have many side effects and I won't bore you with them here. But intelligent woman realize that their choice is either take them or throw caution to the wind. What are the side effects of rubbers? What health issues does a male deal with when he puts that sucker on his johnson?
Rhino..when you sprout a uterus let me know..otherwise your equal protection was at the point of entry into the vagina.
Typical right-wing rhetoric..attack me as a hypocrite instead of discussing points. Good show Rhino!
adios..when it disolves into this,I refuse to play anymore. I thought this was a discussion, not an exercise in name calling. When you have no response is it always your way to make it personal Rhino?
Dusty, are you just ignoring the facts, or are you too blind to see them?
Pre conception, the choice and responsibility is equal
Post conception it is not.
Why should the law protect one and not the other?
You can't have it both ways, well, you have had it both ways, but that looks to be coming to an end.
It should be equal protection under the law. so if the woman chooses to have the baby, and the man doesn't want it, he shouldn't have to pay anything.
If you say he should have to pay, then he should get to decide whether or not to have the child in the first place.
Rhino..he did decide whether to have the child or not..at pre-conception. His body, his choice to wear or not wear the condom.
Since body parts are not interchangable..well in most cases anyway..males don't get protection once the dye..er..sperm is cast..sorry..
The one hosting the fetus gets to choose.
Ignorance does not avail a man of the opportunity to a second shot at prohibiting the birth of a child. YOU GUYS get ONE CHANCE..thats it..no soup for you after the fact.
Rhino..did you even read that post on my blog where you commented..I would dearly love your response to it.I am tired of playing on your playground all the damn time.
Sorry, i didn't read it but i will.
Rhino- you are not really addressing Dusty, you know. I addressed you at my blog on this despite not really wanting to. I did.
Youa re saying that if a woman is against abortion, a Christian, a man should have a say if he wants an abortion so he has "choice" ? I want to be clear on your real point here.
I was under the impression that at pre-conception it wasnt a "child"
In fact NARAL doesnt consider "it" a "child" at conception
So essentialy the the big bad Mr Man has a few months to decide if he wants a "child"
What i am saying is that roe does not provide equal protection. Aren't we all guaranteed equal protection under the law?
Dusty says a man shouldn't have sex with a woman he doesn't know, i say the same thing should apply to the woman. If you don't know the man wants to have a child with you then don't take the chance because you may have to deal with the consequences alone.
Then again, ever since getting kicked in the nuts in the 5th grade Ive been unable to procreate so this is an issue that doesnt affect me. Did I mention that Im from Cali. Is that you Dusty?
o for the love of pete..I said a man has a choice in either using contraceptives aka a rubber to prevent children or not Rhino.
I merely followed your or someone else from your cabals' line of thinking.
LMAO donkey..is your real name roger?
LMAO?
I think its hippie hawaiin ebonics. Liberal/Aloha Combo
I want to have my cake and edith too...
LMAO Tse-Tung. Communism again.
There are alot of interesting coments on this topic on the post I made yesterday at LOC. The main question being: Do the same aurgumnets that were used to legalize abortion hold true for a mans reproductive rights. I have a link there about the case that is going on right now. I think they should really be considerd. One cant be hipocritical just because the argumnet doesnt lean in the womans direction. At any rate person responsibility needs to be the rule of the day.
LOC, I think you both linked to the same story. You guys are on the same side on this matter.
LOC is a secret fascist. But since he's cute we all pretend not to notice his transgressions.
How is it fair that the woman has a choice, but the man doesn't?
Perfectly fair. There is one major factor in the process that will never be the man's. The risk. Abort or not, the woman will take a medical risk. Abort or not, the man will probably never risk the wrath of his family. Abort or not, the woman's body will be changed by the event.
Therefore, the choice is hers. Should the man have his opinion counted. Absolutely, but no more than that.
I don't know if anyone's looking here anymore, but i thought i would try one more time.
In my opinion, Roe is unconstitutional because it doesn't provide equal protection to the man and the woman. According to roe, the woman had a few months to decide if she wanted to be a parent, and the man did not have that same option.
The law has since been perverted and changed so much, that the woman now has up to 9 whole months to decide if it's what she wants, the man has no such choice.
How can this be fair? It doesn't provide equal protection. Fact.
