Look For The Union Zzzzzz
What would happen to most of us if we were caught sleeping on the job like this numbskull. Of course we would be fired, but this guy makes eighty k, contributes not to his pension, and has the audacity to ask for a fifteen dollar an hour raise, all the while holding a city hostage with the threat of another strike. At my local station, they recently changed it where the employee is no longer a subway clerk, but a courtesy agent...in english what that means is they no longer can sell me a Metrocard, but will gladly give me directions to my destination. As a test I asked them how to get to Willet's Point, they had no idea. Nice work guys.

ahhh unions, just one of the many wonderful contributions of the FDR administration. You know why Ford is laying off 30k workers? well maybe it's because they can't compete anymore since they have to pay $1500.00 per auto in benefits costs. And you know I feel kind of bad for the workers who will lose their jobs, but not for the unions. You see those Honda auto plants in ohio and kentucky? no unions, and no layoffs..... go figure.
In London I have heard that they make all taxi cab drivers and bus drivers take a test (that they must pass)that poses geographical location questions including side streets and small neighborhoods. Why wouldn't this be appropriate for our public transportation system. If they aren't doing anything but providing customer service then they should know how to catch a subway to a Path station, where landmarks are for tourists, and directions to small neighborhoods not found on most maps provided by the transit authority...etc., etc...
Ford havent been able to compete for years. Do you think those year end sell offs of the ford taurus to boost the unit sales werent going to catch up? Basically their cars suck! and they don't have the resale value to demand more profit at the initial sale. I don't think the Unions are solely to blame.
If the Transit workers strike again. They should just fire them-no questions asked. NY will deal with the transition. And in the interim they should break apart the buses from the Subway into separate unions if any.
Fly, i've been to london a couple of times, when you get in a taxi, you can say take me to a specific address, and they drop you right in front of the door. I asked one of the drivers about it once and he said they have to spend a long time training, i've seen them. they ride around the city on scooters and they have maps. It's a great idea, in NY they barely speak english.
Warlike, you are absolutely correct, Ford has been struggling for a long time, it is not entirely the fault of the unions, but they are a major problem.
If you are truly interested in finding out the real reason for the demise of the American auto industry, i strongly suggest you run dont walk to your nearest library and rent a documentary called "Gung Ho" Directed by Ron Howard Starring Clint Howard with small cameos from Long Duk Dong, Michael Keaton, John Turturo, and a jumping jack George Wendt. Scathing investigative reporting at its finest.
I thought for a second you were going to reccomend Roger & Me by the Aurora's favorite director the dishonorable Michael Moore. The only thing I learned watching that crap was the best way to kill a bunny but nothing about the auto industry...
i loved the scene where the big executive comes in to see if all the cars are done and michael keaton pretends he's cleaning the windshield, but there is no windshield. That was a funny movie.
Also the pissing contest line.
Yea, it's amazing. Half a year ago they found out that the MTA had TWO sets of books. They were cookin' one and cr3yin' poverty with the other.
Then even after they got caught they threw in a fare hike. F$%kers!!
