65 million dollar dunce cap

IF we told you that an organization gave away more than $65 million last year to Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Amnesty International, AIDS Walk Washington and dozens of other such advocacy groups, you'd probably assume we were describing a liberal philanthropy. In fact, those expenditures have all turned up on the financial disclosure report of the National Education Association, the country's largest teachers union.
This was the beginning of an opinion piece in the Wall street Journal today. Read the story here. I found it quite disturbing. As i read further, it got worse. I won't say i was shocked because we know that the teachers unions are very liberal, and that they are the lap dog of the left, but some of the disclosures were very surprising. Not just the organizations that they donate to, but the fact that the NEA payroll is $58 million dollars, and they only have 600 employees. That's an average salary of $97,000 per employeee, the average teacher makes about $48,000. I think it will be interesting to see if any of these teachers decide to do anything about this. My guess is that it will remain this way for a long time. I think most teachers have it so good, that they won't rock the boat. We'll see.
