This Is Why I Read Cafe Hayek

Because Don Boudreaux is a genius. More importantly though most people who read Krugman or Brooks don't question the idiotic things they say. (I don't mean to just pick on the NY Times but ... actually yes I do).

Why don't people see the simple logic that Boudreaux sees every day? Yes he's a genius but you don't need to be a member of Mensa to realize that increased productivity is actually a good thing and not a PROBLEM as Mr. Brooks seems to believe.

This line was just one small part of the article but it makes you realize that Brooks' opinion of how the GOP should act or react is no more qualified than yours or mine. He's not the smartest guy in the room. He doesn't understand economics and he doesn't understand the U.S. economy.

Should the GOP make a deal on the debt ceiling? Brooks says yes. I say no. The federal government takes in enough money to pay our debts without taking more from us. Figure it out. That's why you were elected. If it was easy anyone could do it.

I think Brooks might be the dumbest guy in the room.

I don't know about that.

Tom Friedman and Maureen Dowd are also in that room.

OK I read your link and the original Brooks story. He obviously doesn't say increased productivity is good. He says increased manufacturing unemployment is bad. Now maybe increased productivity is ONE reason for increased unemployment but outsourcing to other countries comes to mind as well.

Correction, I meant to say he obviously doesn't mean increased productivity is bad.

Increased productivity is NEVER a problem, and ATM's did not steal bank teller's jobs.

Its an infantile argument from infantile minds.

actually he says increased productivity is a problem that needs to be solved. Because he's an idiot.

The rest of the article is spent bashing the tea party but that's to be expected.

My point is and was that if this guy can make a statement like that then that has to make you question his judgement on anything else regarding economics and of course the debt ceiling which he thinks the GOP should make a deal on.

He's a big government lib. Of course he thinks we should make a deal.
