The Aurora in Montauk

I've been to "The End" Montauk NY probably 15 - 20 times in my life and at least 8 time in the last 4 years to do the Montauk Lighthouse sprint triathlon and the RJA Memorial olympic distance triathlon. Just about every time I go out there I visit Gosman's Dock because that's where Ben and Jerry's is. However until this past trip in July (my second of the year already) I never noticed the name of the sail boat sitting right in the middle of everything.

Yes I am in the upper tax bracket. And yet I'm not a millionaire..I don't even have a butler!

You mean youre not a MILLIONAIRE or a BILLIONAIRE?

Next thing, you're gonna tell me is you don't own a private jet or oil field.

Rhino-itall said...

no private jet, no oil field!!!

Oh the humanity!!!!!!

Of course I know Donkey's household income is also above the 200k threshold so he probably does have a private jet.

lets take his money.

No butler? No jet?

Fuggedaboudit.

I this this was the place to come for faux-eligible rich men.

Oh well.

Onwards and upwards, they say.

Rhino ... can you recommend a decent place to stay for a week (post season) in Montauk? Something not expensive but very close to the beach?

I have never been there off season and when I am there I usually stay more towards the north shore. (Culloden house / Harborside) However I'm told the Sands is a very good spot. There's a lot of good places out there but don't look for a "hamptons" type atmosphere or hotel. It's much more of a "blue collar" type town. The hotels are all pretty old but most of them are clean. Lots of good restaurants too but check what's open because some of them are seasonal. I recommend ENE and Harvest House just to name a couple.

Never been to Montauk. Is that an invite Christine?

I have been to Montauk. Many moons ago.

I think I will be staying at the White Sands which is on the beach in Amagansett. Very nice place. Off season prices quite good as well.

I promised myself I would be as far away from the city on September 11, 2011. Too painful. My passport is expired and it's late so I can't get out of the country.

So, I'm looking forward to being on the beach ... August and even more so September at the beach is best in my opinion ... the ocean is rough and warm.

FYI, If youre willing to pay an extra 150ish you can get a passport in 48 hours. Mine expired last year and I didnt realize it until at the airport. Luckily Im very charming so they let me through anyways without any valid id.
