Thomas Sowell writes about 1 page in 1 book that should change the minds of people everywhere who believe the government is the answer to our economic woes. Of course he's right and this is an argument that The Aurora has been making for a long time. Government is not the answer to the problem...government IS the problem.
Amity Shlaes makes the point very well in "The Forgotten Man" that it was government intervention by FDR that prolonged the great depression and even exacerbated it. Sowell points to 1 page and 1 chart that PROVES it.

It's not for nothing that economics is called the dismal science. In no other field of science than I can think of do experts disagree so completely even on the fundamentals. Virtually ll geologists accept the theory of continental drift. All biologists accept the theory of evolution. All pysicists accept the theory of relativity. And yet economists disagree 100% on even the basics.
no need to be an economist to get the very basic point that Sowell makes here.
If government intervention was the key to economic recovery then the great depression shouldn't have happened. Facts are facts.
