I stole that exploding Christmas from Colbert Report because it was really funny.
I saw THIS CLIP on hotair.com of Jay Leno asking people about the July 4th holiday. We've all seen this before and we know how it goes. The TV host asks people simple questions and they don't know the answers.
Whenever I've seen these clips in the past I wondered "who the hell are these people?" How do you go through life and become an adult in America and NOT know these basic things? I don't wonder anymore and this clip reminded me of why.
I have a very good friend that I work with currently. (yes donkey it is who your thinking of) and sometimes we car pool to work. On one of these rides we somehow got to talking about the civil war and I was shocked to find out that this friend new NOTHING about it. NOTHING AT ALL!
He went to public school, graduated from a pretty good college, and earns what I consider to be a very good living (250k per year). And yet he honestly didn't know who which was the union or confederate sides, why we were fighting (didn't even have a guess). He didn't know any of the major players, didn't know anything about the gettysburg address, didn't know Lincoln was president at the time..etc.
Honestly I don't even have any conclusions or anecdotes or anything about this. I was so bewildered by it that I think I just shook my head and dropped the subject.

I guess some people don't give a shit about their history, heritage and the happenings of how we got to where we are today. I'm sure he knows a lot of something about something else though.
