I remember hearing Jon Meacham (editor of newsweek) on the Imus in the Morning program talking about how he was changing Newsweek. He was going to make it a more serious news magazine.
I don't remember all of the details of that particular interview (he used to be on Imus regularly and probably still is) but I remember being somewhat surprised that he was admitting that they were a liberal magazine and they would embrace that but in a more serious hard news kind of way.
How's that working for you now Jon?
This is typical of the Washington D.C. insiders. They are in their own little world and have no clue what the rest of the country is about. I see it all the time in NYC too.
I remember reading something after Bush was re-elected about someone in NYC who was so shocked that he could beat Kerry. The quote was.." I can't believe he won! I don't know anyone who voted for him"
MSNBC decided that they would embrace their liberalness and put it out there for the world to see. They're crushed every night in every time slot. Liberal talk radio? Ummm...try finding that on your dial (except NPR which is publicly funded)
When people in this country have a choice they lean right. I've been saying this for a long time. Obama won and the dems took congress because the republicans abandoned their conservative roots. They ignored the Reagan doctrine and the result was that the base stayed home, they were uninspired. Maybe in a way it was a good thing though because Obama and co. have sent a wake up call to the country.
So long Newsweek and make room at the retirement home because you're going to have a lot of Washington company come November.

bye bye dumb dumbs
Not so fast! Obama is going to bail them out!
Bush beat Kerry because Rove and company polarized the country as a political strategy, energized the base with gay-bashing, and stole votes, particularly in Ohio.
To some extent I agree with you that the Republicans abandoned their political philosophy, the problem is that philosophy, or what's left of it is intellectually bankrupt. Your solution is to return to the "Reagan doctrine". Personally I am a Reagan fan to an extent that might surprise you but the Reagan invoked by today's so-called conservatives is largely a myth (Check out the book "Tear Down This Myth"). Reagan did not balance the budget (that was Clinton), shrink government, or get us into needless wars like Iraq. Reagan was soundly criticized by conservatives for negotiating with the Soviet Union. Reagan banned CFCs, persuaded by the scientific "consensus" on the threat to the ozone layer, a consensus since proven correct.
The conservative movement, right or wrong, once had some intellectual vigor, thanks to Buckley and others. Today there is no "there" there. Perhaps there are some conservative intellectuals working unknown out on the margins somewhere who will revitalize conservatism. I hope so. We liberals need honest, intelligent, and principled conservative to keep us honest and check our excesses (all movements go too far as Bertrand Russell said).Unfortunately such conservative are in very short supply.
You were good enough to refer me to Hayek, actually a classical liberal. Perhaps you can refer to someone who is still alive and active. No radio talk show hosts, please.
