Only The Faces Change

"The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane" -- Marcus Aurelius

""D.C. resident John Lockwood was conducting research at the Library of Congress and came across an intriguing Page 2 headline in the Nov. 2, 1922 edition of The Washington Post: "Arctic Ocean Getting Warm; Seals Vanish and Icebergs Melt."
The 1922 article, obtained by Inside the Beltway, goes on to mention "great masses of ice have now been replaced by moraines of earth and stones," and "at many points well-known glaciers have entirely disappeared."
"This was one of several such articles I have found at the Library of Congress for the 1920s and 1930s," says Mr. Lockwood. "I had read of the just-released NASA estimates, that four of the 10 hottest years in the U.S. were actually in the 1930s, with 1934 the hottest of all.""

oops. sorry anita. which ranks do you think you're in?

who cares about single years, or even a couple decades? isn't the point to look at all the data we have, going as far back as we have? so let's do that.

obviously, disregard the inaccuracies in the nasa graph that has not yet been updated. even in light of this, the evidence is convincing.

second, glaciers have always grown and receded. but not like this.

and finally, agw is not a liberal conspiracy.

looking at a couple sets of figures extrapolated over the entire globe proves nothing.

the reality is that the epicenter, if you will, of global climate change is in the arctic. and the trends occurring throughout the arctic region and greenland are anticipated to continue to spread outward. and, in fact, during this time, it is anticipated that some areas will see a downtick of average temperatures. but that does not negate the reality of changing climates around the globe.

you guys are suck f-ing naysayers. you live to say nay. pshawww !!!!!!!!

I actually do live to say nay so you got me there, however as donsky said glaciers have always been growing and receeding, and as you said the global temps might see a downtick..... so what are we to surmise from this?

In the 1920's the seals were going extinct, the glaciers were going by by and it was anticipated to continue... but you know, a funny thing happened on the way to doomsday.... the climate went in a different direction! But how can that be? there was a consensus!!!

I will say, as i have always said, the climate is changing, it has always been changing since long before we cared and long before the thermometer was invented, and long before NASA existed. It's not the SUVs.

Also, i don't think AGW is a liberal conspiracy, i just think they're stupid, AND of course they're using it for political gain.

i didn't say "global" temperatures would see a downtick. i said that "areas" or regions may see a downtick. and, as donsky says, yes, glaciers have always been growing and receding, but not to the extent we are seeing today: recession that is being caused by manmade sources, such as the exponential growth in the quantities of materials in the atmosphere from burning of fossil fuels.

you really should "look into" what is now, by most respected scientests, considered highly convincing evidence rather than going "willy nilly" to just be a naysayer.

you don't want to be considered a tool of the fringe right, do you?

Actually...

We are the Knights who until recently said Nay.

...and I too do not believe it is a liberal conspiracy and once again agree with Rhino that the reason is that libs are too stupid, but rather its the one world globalists who stand to benefit the most from indoctrinating the planet with this newfound and fangled religion of global alarmism.

i can imagine you guys during the onset of the automobile age:

The Donkey Says: whooaa!! dagnabit, what ARE these new-fangled toys? rhino, you and me, we gonna stick with our four-legged friends to get us 'cross town and 'cross country. whooo weee !!! you stick with me rhino, i'll lead you down the paths of glory and hot babitude ... you, me and mr. ed here.

Autombile age?

How bout last week?

I still dont trust the automobile industry and have been commuting by foot bicycle or bike for close to fifteen years.

...but then again I am an enviromentalist and deplore the urban sprawl that has destroyed the small town community alienated neighbor from neighbor all the while shooting the opiate of foreign oil into the arms of a dependent American consumer jeopardizing our national security.

....speaking of Ludlumites, anyone see the new Bourne? I havent but hands down three of the best spy novels ever. Strike that, the three best.

anita said...

i haven't seen or read any of them .. i'm just glad to see matt damon making a real name for himself while his over-rated and conceited co-hort, affleck, wanders the former heart-throb desert of pain.

yes, yes. i can be cruel.

so, what do you suggest: a) reading the books THEN seeing the movies; or b) seeing the movies and "possibly" reading the books.

your donkey-wisdom would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

sincerely,

your loyal subject of much unwarranted verbal abuse,

anita

Wow such venom. To play the Donktrarian I would make the case that Bela Fleck carried Good Will Hunting or at the very least had the best line....

My boy is wicked smaawt

Of which the premise of the movie has been rumored to be about yours truly, not the boy genius part mind you but rather that I once worked as a janitor.

My reco would be both but its probably not your bag and I may biased as I am a self-ascribed Ludlumite and have been reading the Bourne Trilogy every few years since I was around 12 and thought the movies were kickass.

... and is it really my "wisdom" that you want?

anita said...

you're right, ludlum is not quite "my thing" ... but i'm trying to expand my horizons, in general, but as well as in my literary and cinematic endeavors.

Yeah Ludlum is pretty much for teenage boys and former teenage boys that eat alot of Mexican food with time to kill.

If youre into French literature motorcycle chases and devil worshipping you might give The Club Dumas a go, preferably in spanish if you are able, but be forewarned that Im the only one I know that actually liked it and I have notoriously bad taste in both books and film as well as booze and broads ok pretty much everything.
