For a brief moment this past Saturday I was almost cool again. Breaking my self imposed rule of never venturing south of The Garden I found myself walking side by side with the hipsters, ink shops, and XXX stained spots of West Third as I made my way to the IFC. For all you squares out there in Auroraland, that's the Independent Film Center.... yeah that's right.
Like I said, I was almost cool....
... except for two things. I was wearing my Reagan Revolution tee, and I was going to watch a documentary about competitive Classic Arcade Games.
Not very cool at all.
But I will tell you this, long winded mumbo jumbo about the juxtaposition of a classic protagonist/antagonist storyline with good ol' fashioned Greek tragedy aside, that "The King of Kong" was one of the funniest and all around best movies I have seen in some time. Genuine laugh out loud moments, and that's high praise coming from an ornery jackass such as myself. So I will implore you to walk don't run (don't want anyone to get hurt) to the nearest theater and check this flick out.
If you do in fact take my recommendation and happen to think it sucks, well what did you expect from the former president of his A/V Club whose first "job" was selling counterfeit tokens at Aladdin's Castle Arcade.
...and you have no soul.
