Are there any patriots left in the Democrat party? Joe Lieberman is the only one i can think of and he was rejected by his own party for being one. Does anyone out there believe that nancy pelosi cares about anything but politics? Does anyone believe that harry reid cares about the troops when he undermines their mission time after time?
I've asked the question before but it needs to be asked again.
Where have the Democrat patriots gone? Where have the Democrat warriors gone?

i do think there are many patriots in the democratic party.
however, i don't know what's going on with pelosi and reid. very, very bizarre, i must admit.
but, i also think that the hyper- war-hawk-blustering and let's-bomb-everyone-who-disagrees-with-us posturing of the current slate of republican candidates is exactly that, more posturing than true "patriotism" ... does rudy actually believe his own hype? i think he knows he's blustering just like the rest of them. if not, then we REALLY have cause to worry about his mental stabilitiy.
and regarding the jefferson quote, both parties are guilty of creating the current and very unfortunate and potentially dangerous division amongst the american people. the extremes of both parties ... they have been quite successful in creating the very unpleasant environment where people admit to *hating* the other side. what possible good does that do? nothing. at all.
so, don't just blame the democrats for the current state of affairs. it's the system more than anything else. and people like you should be smart enough to realize that.
anita i didn't blame the dems for the current situation, i ask why they are so hell bent on pushing for defeat in a war that, at the very worst, is still in question?
I think FDR was possibly the worst president ever, but he was hell bent on victory and thats the difference. I don't agree with leiberman on almost anything else, but i respect him because he sticks to his guns and believes in the troops and their mission.
Reid and company are deliberately trying to force defeat strictly for political gain, and to me that's worse than just being stupid, that's treasonous.
what i find it ironic is that the anti-war democratic base is pissed off at them (pelosi and reid) because they haven't done *enough* to end the war; thay feel that the democratic leadership effectively turned their backs on the people who voted them into office as well as having backed off (in an extreme and disconcertingly blatant manner) on the policy priorities they committed themselves to were they to be elected. which leads me to believe that nancy and harry (not related to sally and harry, by the way) never really wanted to end the war in the first place. they knew that while the war was bad, cut and run wasn't gonna do it. for us or for the iraqi's. but they couldn't say so because, well, you know why. at least hilary is (relatively) honest about her stance on the war. and i think her stance is only about 50% posturing. which, these days, is saying something.
anyway, an interesting quote from (sometimes) liberal blogger, Lance Mannion:

interesting, except that i don't think the seats that they gained were won by candidates who ran on a cut and run policy.
The move on crowd likes to spew that bullshit but it's not true.
Opposing bad policies that are destructive to the national interest is not unpatriotic. For example, I opposed "the surge" because it was obvious to anyone with half a brain that it would not work. Now it is obvious that it hasn't worked. We need to get out of Iraq. Hey, if Bush had listened to me we wouldn't be in this mess.

i don't think the division between americans is as stark or as concrete as commonly portrayed in the media who, as we all know, love to generate controversy where there is none.
in fact, most americans are in favor of some type of phased withdrawal from iraq.
so a true patriot, by jefferson's definition, would be a leader who sought a withdrawal solution that most americans found acceptable.
and thus, by jefferson's definition, bush and many others in the GOP are not patriots at all.

Sorry I haven't been so social, I am a person of automatic discipline and writing about African companies while keeping up with my blog was something I actually needed to pay a lot of attention to; socially dormant is different from non-social. I'm glad to see you're still around here at The Aurora and I'm posting a note to myself to look at my comments each time I see that page.

yes, i do recall hearing rumours that chris noth may be or at one time was a local celebrity. although i do believe he is originally from wisconsin (it's funny, everyone i've ever met ... and not that i've ever met C. Noth ... from wisconsin has been extremely attractive ... maybe it's the cheese, i don't know). anyway, the REAL celebrities in my new hudson valley environs are my twin kittens, purrington a. purrington and purrington b. purrington.
