If Bill Monroe told me that Bela Fleck couldn't play the banjo worth a heck Id listen to him.
Just as being of sound mind I would pay attention if.....
"Reid Bryson, known as the father of scientific climatology, considers global warming a bunch of hooey."
But I fully expect this to be swept under the rug in an attempt to retain the fraudulent moral high ground of consensus or worse yet the man himself not unlike many highly respected before him whose integrity was never in question before this global ruse will suddenly find himself the victim of a definitely not funded by Exxon Mobil --maybe K-Mart, yeah definitely K-Mart -- smear campaign.
story
.....how can you not trust a man that says hooey? that's salt of the earth stuff right there.

“There is very important climatic change going on right now, and it’s not merely something of academic interest.”
“It is something that, if it continues, will affect the whole human occupation of the earth – like a billion people starving. The effects are already showing up in a rather drastic way.”--Reid Bryson, climate alarmist (on global cooling)
At least he is consistently wrong.
Once again demonstrating your complete lack of understanding of how science in general works and more telling your inability to argue his statements without the aid of a search engine.
You sir, are in the modern day vernacular as well as the true sense of the word, a Yahoo!
i personally don't see how using the term "hooey" makes one more or less "salty" or reliable or clearheaded. to me it just means one truely IS a YAAAYhooo. and that's about all that reveals.
versus, of course, someone who says *whoo-waaaah* ... now that, my dear donksterhue, is a real man.
You might be right or it could be that I may be biased as a member of the Fraternal Order of The Knights That Say Hooey, but I must pull rank as a former volunteer at the Salt Museum of Central New York and state once again that using the word in question does in fact make one saltier, although certainly not to the degree that say saying phooey would but salty nonetheless.
I don't know gary? was he wrong?
I never heard of the guy but according the quotes you put up there he said "if it continues" we have big trouble.
Clearly it didn't continue.
uh, how about bryson doesn't really make any scientific arguments worth debunking...
there are plenty of studies that link increased CO2 levels over the past 30 years with rising temperatures. bryson says they're not credible without going into the alleged flaws in their methodologies.
the fact is that the evidence overwhelmingly supports anthropogenic global warming. of course there is a role for skeptics, but policymakers must take into account the balance of evidence (as "proof" is for theoretical math and physics, not applied science).
bryson's claims about heat island effect being responsible for the appearance of anthropogenic global warming has been thoroughly debunked ever since NASA figured out how to isolate it from other factors.
then he makes an ad hominem attack on his opponents, saying they're only in it for the money (a stupid argument leveled by both sides that gets us nowhere, and is totally irrelevant even if it's true for both sides).
then he makes the claim that since it's his students' students opposing him, you really shouldn't pay any attention to them. yeah, that makes sense--so let's not pay any attention to bryson, either, or his teacher, or his teacher before him. the only guy whose argument matters is a caveman named Oog who invented teaching in 50000 BCE by drawing some lines on some rocks, thus inventing the blackboard.
you, our president, and other skeptics can pretend that you're waging some noble battle against liberal alarmists who want to make money off book sales and bogus research grants, but all you're really doing is preventing the exploration of solutions to what could possibly be (and probably will be, according to overwhelming evidence) the greatest disaster of our time.
and that is more irresponsible than any quack scientist on either side of this debate.
Why it gotta be a blackboard?
Actually it is the alarmists that are attempting to stifle the argument whereas the scientific evidence is neither over nor whelming. That is just how it is being conveyed and for good reason as it certainly fits into the neo-agrarian luddiction liberal one world death to capitalism tax the rich ideology, and you like so many others have already been fooled into focusing on "finding a solution" (which it seems primarily involves book sales and bogus research grants as well as phoney phooey offsets and rock concerts) we may or not need to a problem that may or may not exist of our doing or not that is probably out of our control anyways.
So I must say to you my mishpucheh...
Dont believe the hype. Its a sequel as an equal. Can I get this through to you. My ninety eight is booming with a trunk of funk. All the jealous punks cant stop the DONK. Coming from the school of hard knocks. Some perpetrate they drink Clorox
I ain't sayin' Bela Fleck can't play the banjo, but his idea of music and my idea of music are two different things. I heard some cuts form his new album on NPR and I near bouts died from pain it was so fucking gawdaful a din!
Anyway Gary, what is wrong with a billion less people on the earth?
miss carnivorous listens to NPR ??? next she'll be calling herself Miss Democracy Now !!!
whooooweeee !!!
So, there's no consensus?
Consensus?
Ahh, yes--consensus.
and as for bela fleck, i must admit it takes talent to make victor wooten sound so square. i enjoy the virtuosity from a technical standpoint, but i find him about as exciting as a trip to the dentist.
Its a shame that the statements/predictions/warnings of the "alarmists" are not put under as much scrutiny as that of the "skeptics". Some jackass from the UN can blame global warming on the genocide (an inherently racist positition for the record)in Darfur or Al Gore can preach doom and gloom armageddon TOMORROW and for the most part they are given a pass, yet as soon as someone expresses one iota of doubt they are immediately labeled as an Exxon whore.
There was never a rational discussion in the first place so how do you really expect there to be a rational solution (if there is one even needed)
Oh yeah! Lets have a rock concert, that'll solve everything.
Regarding Ben Affleck I will give him credit for the classic line "My boy is wicked smaaaawt" oh my bad.... Bela Fleck, I always get them confused. Well I have to admit that I was for him before I was against him, but as with most things/people that are tagged with the "critically acclaimed" label they begin to take themselves too seriously and inevitably go to pot as a result.
Puleeze Anita, that's all I listen to, I am an NPR addict. NPR, despite the beliefs of many on the right is not a " far left" controlled, brainwashing device funded by the unsuspecting tax payer, but a slightly left of center, often fair and balanced, intelligent source for information, culture and entertainment.
