Bush slams plan for Iraq pullout date
By Jennifer Loven
"President Bush said Saturday that a Democratic plan to set an end date for the war gives "our enemies the victory they desperately want."
Bush and Democratic congressional leaders are trying to bolster their positions on the Iraq war before a scheduled White House meeting.
At Bush's invitation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are due at the White House on Wednesday to discuss the war, particularly a bill funding the military mission through September.
In both the House and Senate, Democrats have attached timelines for withdrawing troops to the bill containing $96 billion in military funding.
Bush says the meeting will be about his nonnegotiable stance on a timeline.
"Instead of approving this funding, Democrats in Congress have spent the past 68 days pushing legislation that would undercut our troops," he said in his weekly radio address. "They passed bills that would impose restrictions on our military commanders and set an arbitrary date for withdrawal from Iraq, giving our enemies the victory they desperately want."

To answer the question in the title, if the Karate Kid were The United States of America, he would fight.... Daniel LaRusso is going to fight.

Unfortunately I don't think Bush has a "Crane kick" up his sleeve.

donkey, you said, "isnt it really a matter of you thinking that we dont deserve to win this war and not that we cant win it?"
uh, no. when general after general says "there is no military solution," i tend to become convinced that there is, indeed, no military solution.
how do you respond to criticism? by implying all critics are traitors (libelous bullsh*t more appropriate for fascist sympathizers).
how hard is it for you to understand that i (and gary, too, i suspect) believe what's in the best interest of our country is to leave iraq? i'm rooting for us, but taking a long-term view of the situation.
and then to regurgitate the crap about the "hippies" undermining troop morale and thus the war effort! do you know what the biggest factor in troop morale is? the situation on the ground! news flash! it sucks!
Soundbites are great, but that's not exactly the whole quote now is it?
The military ALONE can't get it done. There has to be political settlement as well. This is no secret, and in fact we have been working with the Iraqi's since the very begining to get their government off the ground. The political part of it has to be there too, but why would the side that is suddenly out of power be willing to participate or compromise if they don't have to? If there's no threat of military force they'll just keep fighting because WHO WOULDN'T????? If you were in power for the last 30 years, and you led by force would you just come to the bargaining table and give up all that power without the military threat? I don't think you would.
There is no way to win this war with the military alone, and there is no way to win it AT ALL without the military.
Pussy.
"we have been working with the Iraqi's since the very begining to get their government off the ground."
So Rhino how was it down there in the trenches of Iraq? Bloody huh? Listen my dear friend-the consistent loss of American GI life is not worth saving a country that doesnt want to be saved. Let's just preserve some dignity and get out of there.
I notice you and Donk are so passionate for us to send more troops to die and win win but yet you do this from your comfortable lifestyles with no risk to your health. One soldier is not worth 100,000 Islamic religious zealots!!
Hippie Pukes runnin' around in their keffiyahs and shit! No of course they are not for the other side. They jus luv our lil ole troops!

Yet another "brainwashed believer" sitting at home pressing War buttons.
But i guess it was worth it to lose tens of thousands to save the brits and the french though right?
It's never a good thing to lose ANY soldiers, but that's war.
Once again i'll state the obvious. We can stay and finish this thing now, or we can leave, the entire region will go to shit, and we'll be back in less than ten years in an even bigger shit storm with less credibility, and an even bolder enemy.
Wake up warlike.
Wake Up? You need to wakeup.
The war we are in right now is pointless with no agenda and no plan. And with no short or longterm benefits for American citizens. Your great president thought he was gonna roll in there and "shock & awe" those people into submission. Unfortunately people like you and him have no personal blood at risk over there so you sit back playing "war games" and dismissing collateral damage like its a fucking video game--Shit head we are creating more terrorists by being there.
We can't win this war--bottom line. We are just so entrenched and embarassed that we continue to press ahead, but the truth is this war was lost a long time ago my friend. I respect your loyalty to your president--you are an honorable man--I personally know that, but deep down you know what's really happening and you know this war is overpriced in blood and money.
Um if you look at the numbers we are winning. 650,000 dead Iraqis and 3,00 dead troops.
I meant 3,000
I thought you were plugging the new Frank Miller movie, which I might go see tonight on the Imax.
lol@Missy--that's winning? You really are crazy.
