I Need A Little Help

My friend posed this question to me and I am stumped...help me?

In one inning of baseball, can a team get two triples, two doubles, two singles without scoring a run?

The answer is "Yes" and I have a feeling this must have been the 1962 Mets but I cannot find a scenario that doesn't end up with a run scoring.

Thanks jackass. I figured Id swing by the office today to get a head start on next week and now youre going to have me drawing up baseball scenarios all day. I might as well just lock up and head to the pub.

I am going to put you back to work...I too am at work drawing up baseball scenarios...here's how it goes down.

My initial guess was -

The first guy gets a triple. The second guy gets a triple but the guy who was at third heads home & is thrown out. The next guy gets a double but the guy at third holds his position. The next guy hits a double and the guy that was at third is thrown out at home and the guy who was at second only advances to third. The next guy gets an infield single and everyone hold their position, bases loaded with two outs. The next guy gets an infield single but unfortuantely the guy at third gets hung up and is tagged out before he can score.

I was wrong on the last hit because it wouldn't have been a single...it wouldn't be a credited hit. What needs to happen here is the last batter hits a ball directly at a base runner. The base runner doesn't get out of the way and the ball hits him. The batter is credited with a hit but the runner is out...no runs score.

Too late Im already on my thrid pint....

In all due respect thats a stupid question and I highly doubt that that its ever happened, unless the players were sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds.

Let me guess...a lawyer posed that question to you.

Barring injury or Mike Piazza running, I cant see a scenario where a hitter is credited with a triple and yet fails to score the guy on third.

I have actually seen a triple hit with a guy on third and the guy at third was thrown out going home. The batter hit a ball hard up the first base line(the frozen rope variety). The guy at third held to see if the ball was caught not seeing that it glanced off the first basemen's glove. The guy who hit it broke and kept running while the guy at third was in a run down. Eventually he got tagged out but the guy who hit the ball ended up at third

...but to have 4 extra base hits and two singles in one inning and not score a run would be horrendous. In fact I looked it up and I saw that the most hits in a game without scoring a run is 14 hits. Six hits of any variety in one inning better yield a run or someone should get fired or released.

Get this stat though, George Brett is the only player to hit 20 or more homers, doubles & triples in a single season. He was freaking awesome...but I could totally see Jose Jose Jose (3X) do it. If you look at his numbers last year, you can't deny those numbers are possible especially since he has bulked up with more muscle for this year. I could also see Beltran doing it and adding twenty steals on top of that which I'm pretty sure Brett never did...Imagine the first guy to get 20(hrs),20(sbs),20(2bs),20(3bs) could be a Met? I could see three guys on the Mets capable of getting that in Reyes, Wright & Beltran. We got a helluva a good team, eh?

LETS GO METS!
