Very cool, I love it. I check out a few Fiddlers every year, and the best is when they play outside in the summer. Its just a good way to spend an evening.
I was recently reading an interesting article about how classical string instruments have outperformed every other investment vehicle over the past thirty years.
Relax Rhino...that banjo from your rafting trip in the backwoods of Georgia is worth nothing more than fond fond memories and the distant sound of pig squeals in your head.
Funny you say that Donkey because my father has been purchasing investment instruments for two years and just had an old harp delivered.
I admit I scoffed a bit until I had to have some items appraised recently.
I thought only tax evaders invested in instruments... and crazy retirees.
Donkey you should get into the auction scene, its alot of fun.
Theres an auction scene?
I dont know if I could handle that. Im still in shock from witnessing the MSG Dog Show crowd getting wild with the local ruffians and union crews at the Blarney Stone.
Worlds are colliding Jerry!!!
I shouldn't care less?
Geez Donkey I dont mean like "Antiques Roadshow" I mean investment auctions.
I guess I took you for somewhat of a history buff who might like the background aspects.
OK we really dont have anything in common.
"Aintry, Aintry, this river don't go to Aintry!" "You don't know nunthin'"
well eb, you're both idiots, so at least you've got that.
Well, he's got you there eb. Whoa -- wait a gosh dang minute here.
Listen Rhino I was going to save this one for a rainy day, but now might be as good a time as any to mention that I have you on tape singing Loverboy's Almost Paradise and also that youre a fag.
Yeah thats right -- now what!
you don't have that on tape you f-n liar.
OOooo...a man with a BOW.....
heh.
My 12 yr old is playing violin for the third year. He cannot wait to play "COLD MOUNTAIN" fiddle music (as he calls it) because Bluegrass is our household soundtrack.
Screw being a soccer player....CHICKS DIG AN ATHLETIC FIDDLE PAYER...(he also lifts wih is dad...so he is MORE than hunky for 12)
Sorry guys, its me..seejanemom...I hate google.
Jane, we hate google too and we're looking to switch it a.s.a.p. we were forced to convert.
Yup..google sucks. Im shutting this blog down soon as I can find a new home....any recos?
I was the same way when I was his age and refused to call it a violin. I wish I hadve stuck with it longer than I did so Id have a playlist of more than 5/6 songs but as soon as I picked up my first lacrosse stick -- nothing else mattered.
Ima gonna have to dust off the ol' strad and head down to Jack Dempseys for a seisun one of these nights.
I should probably also mention that I am often referred to as the Bill Monroe of my profession.
Totally forced to convert. They finally gave up and didn't let us press the later button any more. Damn them, damn them to hell.
Well perhaps thats because its FREE and since its FREE they can do whatever the hell they want.
Mine is not free although The Dude pays all the bills and registered everything in his name.
Why? Because if you leave google to a site thats better (read:not free) your name will be public record on trackers like godaddy.
So lots of people that think they are anonymous are not, sometimes the address and phone number is available too. Even if you bounce your ISP to fool sitemeter and statracker about your location- once you get a real server you can be found.
Lots of people dont know about this registry and want a glamor .com and find out six months later that everyone knows who the hell they are from godaddy.
Duh.
Its a matter of how important it is to be anonymous. If you care- stick with blogger.
I should have mentioned that for extra money some hosts like Mocha will protect your identity. A few are adding that in.
Fact is, google is for bloggers what AOL is for my grandma. other services don't host your images and thats a real inconvenience. Why hassle?
side note- there is a sothern white supremicist group that claims to be exclusively celtic and supports their claim by the "fact" that both scottish and Southern hillbilies enjoy "fiddle" music, oh and that they both drink whiskey, smoke tobacco and like to fight. (i wish i was making this up)
Actually we prefer the term WHITE POWER. Supremicist has such a negative connotation.
Lacrosse, eh. Here in No. Virginia, LAX is KING. My little one will play anything, but my violin player as a heart condition, so no LAX...but plenty of fiddle.
I heard today there is a ---I'm not kidding---BLUE GRASS TRIBUTE to VanHalen called "Strumming with the Devil"...I'm looking for it to put on my AMAZON link...so stand by....
Here is the link...I know it won't be "hot". OR if its not hot---YOU CAN GO TO MY RIGHT SIDEBAR, the FIRST ALBUM under "Jane's Ipod" has an AMAZON link for this album. I heard about it on SIRIUS 8, the 80's channel and I would not have believed it , had I not seen it.

Phish also has a double album tribute from Blue Gras artists called Gone Phishing. It's excellent and I highly reccomend it. Silent in the Morning never sounded so good!
If you want to hear something really good and new "fiddle-wise" ... you should listen to Carrie Rodriguez. She's opening for Lucinda Williams during her current tour. A friend of mine is her manager:
"Carrie is a young singer-songwriter with roots in Texas. She is the daughter of an Austin singer-songwriter, David Rodriguez. She started out accompanying other artists on violin and then spent some time as part of a duet with Chip Taylor, who is famous for writing “Wild Thing” and “Angel of the Morning.” Now she is finally striking out on her own as well, and I have to say I am very impressed. She’s got something unique in her voice that’s very subtle and a little smoky and sweet. She’s got a refreshingly spunky attitude to go along with it. I detect a certain wisdom in her, and yet a sense of wonder as well. On “Seven Angels on a Bicycle” (Back Porch/Train Wreck/EMI), Chip Taylor contributes to the songwriting."
