You Have A Moron In Pennsylvania

Growing up where I did, as a lad my rivalries were always based on geographic regions. As far as intra-state conflicts were concerned it pretty much broke down athletically on the Empire State Games lines...Central, Adirondack, Hudson Valley, New York City, Western, and Long Island. Long Island being the only serious challenge to Central's Lacrosse (the only thing that mattered back then) supremacy. For the record when I was in school longisland won squat. I never liked any of them, and their Billy Joel ways. They were punks. Like the old joke went...

Q: What do you call a mick, two italians, two wasps and a spic on the Garden City Lax team?

A: Six guidos

But I had some respect for them (even if I wouldnt admit it then or now) as they were New Yorkers, they played lacrosse and we'd always beat them so they were harmless enough

Which brings me to New Jersey. Never liked them and their Bon Jovi ways. To be honest Jersey wasnt even on the radar of my world back then, in fact I still consider it nothing more than the sixth red-headed borough of NYC.

Which brings me to Pennsylvania. I traveled quite extensively along the 81 corridor as I had family in Maryland and have always been into history so I would make frequent trips to Gettysburg and the surrounding battlefields. I loved Pennsylvania. The only problem was all the damn Pennsylvanians. A more backwards group of jackasses youd be hard pressed to meet. Absolute morons.

Case in point. They elected Bob Casey. As the old joke goes...if my aunt had balls shed be my uncle. Well if Rick Santorum didnt have balls, he'd be Bob Casey.

Rick Santorum was a great Senator and a great American, and I would like to take this opportunity to re-print some of his outstanding Farewell Speech. Thanks for the service Rick.

As I said, I understand this is an unpopular war. When I stepped forward to define the enemy as radical Islamic fascists, I was ridiculed by the media and others, saying that my words were too harsh, saying that at worst my defining the enemy was incorrect, at best it was inflammatory. But I did so because I believe words matter. If you are going to confront an enemy you have to understand who that enemy is and you have to communicate that to the people of America. And we must do that.

Many people talk about this war as if it is an attempt simply to create fledgling democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan. While this may be an appealing possible outcome, we all must recognize that Iraq and Afghanistan are battlefields in a much more complex and broader war. That includes every continent with the exception of Antarctica. The war is at our doorstep, and it is fueled, as I mentioned, literally and figuratively by the evil of Islamic fascism.

Whether we know it or not, they have been at war with us, and the State of Iran specifically has been at war with us, since 1979 when they declared war against the United States. They have not rescinded that declaration. So when we talk about engaging Iran as the Secretary, the new, future Secretary of Defense has talked about, we are talking about engaging someone who is at war with us, who has declared war with us, and who has been at war and, and as I will talk about here, and I think it has been widely reported in the press, has been doing a lot to substantiate the claim that they have been at war with us.

But this threat is not exclusively based in Iran. It is gaining strength and spreading throughout every region of the world. I have addressed the issue of Islamic fascism but have not yet spoken to the subject of Iraq. Iraq is the central front in the war on Islamic fascism. However, contrary to the Iraqi Study Group, the Baker-Hamilton commission, the answer to this problem can be found--the answer to Iraq can be found not in Iraq but in Iran. It is Iran and its client State of Syria that serve as the principal instigators and fomenters of the conflict in Iraq today.

i absolutely agree about longisland, but not about new jersey. no way.

pennsylvanians (excluding most philadelphians) definately are a strange, strange lot of folks (although, my mother was from a small town near scranton ... polish and irish ... no mixing allowed, although she would say, on a fairly regular basis, 'some of my best friends were polish' ... hmmmm)

anyway,

santorum, no. as john prine would say, you (and santorum) are crazy as a loon.

Santorum for President. I think he could win the whole damn thing!

By the way, my former highschool just won the rutgers trophy (best football team) for the second year in a row. That's never been done before in the history of long island football, and haven't lost a home game since 2000. I'm pretty sure they could kick the crap out of the hillbilly schools in upstate NY, just like we always did in the state wrestling championships! In fact, section XI (suffolk county) dominates the record books in NY state wrestling championships, and section XIII (nassau county) is next.
Moral of the story- Santorum is the man, and long island has the best athletes in NY state. Oh and we also have the most guido's!

i've heard from people who know him (of all political stripes) that santorum was one of the few "good guys" in washington--honest, incorruptible, a genuinely nice guy who always did what he thought was right.

it's just too bad so many of his views were reactionary and oppressive.

(though his characterization of islamic fascists is right on the money.)

his views are oppressive? for example?

Well there are his views on women and their place, first of all. Not to mention being pro-life. Like I said, I dont think we need to go there as these things are known by all here. The disgreement is in whether the Aurorans think they are oppressive, which they wont. So why bother?

Donksy I usually respect your opinion more than most but I have interacted with his staff and am in PA. Although right on the border.I also have family in Penn Hills, where he's from, and dont know many people who share your characterization. I do know many people that have called him on distortions, and even the people in his home town hate him and have been trying to sue him over the school fraud issue. And while I preferred Pennachio, I did work for Casey's people. In the end I agreed that a moderate Dem had the best chance.

I dont think its helpful to debate Santorum now, since he's heading out but there are numerous examples where he was caught lying about things, trying to exploit the need for jobs in blue collar regions by making claims universally refuted regarding energy policy and job creation. People need jobs, not smoke up their asses.

He says everything will create jobs here, that never come. His staff is also regarded as pretty clueless which does not speak well for him either. They are considered to be some of the most ignorant staffers around, even by many Republicans.
A classic example was when he said that oil in ANWR would make us oil-independent. When his energy rep HIS TOP ENERGY REP was asked if there was any way to make sure that oil would go to America, he agreed there wasn't and had no damn answer about why it was said. It was embarassing. He's on tape admitting to being unsure of what permafrost is for pete's sake. Also in a written statement said that Caribou would be kept warm by the pipeline, it would help them. It was so crazy it wasnt funny. This is the Santorum/staff people HERE know. Stupid.

Donksy if you actually sat down with some of these people and heard the ignorance on policy, you'd be disgusted. And dont get me started on the planning matters.

lily, you're probably right. my sources are in the media, so they're neither constituents nor particularly educated on public policy.

i was, however, surprised by their reaction to santorum's loss--these are liberals, and they said it was too bad that he lost, just because he was a nice guy.

i've never met santorum or any of his staffers, but i trust your assessment of their capabilities.

Rhino-itall said...

donsky, you trust an employee of the opponent? why that's very nice..... and stupid.

Lily, i'm not saying you're biased or anything, but you say his position on women? no examples?

He's pro life, as is CASEY, so how is that oppressive? Personally, i think you're biased at best, full of shit at worst. But that's just me.

Also, a politician promising to bring jobs to the area? that's the example you give? That's every politician in the history of the world! show me the guy who didn't promise jobs, and i'll show you the loser! Get a grip.
