Greenie's VS Peta

The greenies have to be upset today. The U.N. has declared G.W. Bush is NOT the one and only person in the history of the world causing global warming! Is Kyoto the answer? I don't think so. So who's to blame for the ills of the world? It's the cows! we need to get rid of the cows!
P.E.T.A isn't going to take this lying down!

Lets Get Ready To Rummmmmble!

I dont eat cows. I think grazing is a ridiculous resource consuming practice.

Donkey and I used to be members of a "steak club". There was 6 or 7 of us, all in the same industry. We would get together and talk business once a month at a different steak house.

Good times....Good times....

That's kinda gross ... sorry.

Perhaps once people see "Fast Food Nation" there will be fewer beef eaters anyway ... ALTHOUGH, I highly recommend you read the book instead.

Yeah good times. That was until D recruited two new members, both of whom ordered the fish. Kinda went downhill from there.

So what youre saying is that when I order the porterhouse for two at Lugers, Im not being gluttonous...Im actually saving the planet. Sweet. Im wicked eco-friendly.

Hamburgers for all my men!!!!!!!!!

anita said...

no, donkey. when you order your porterhouses you are NOT being eco-friendly, and you're not being very friendly to your body either.

Rhino-itall said...

Anita, you dont understand, you have to get the porterhouse at Lugers! So at least he gets the big one and saves the planet from those dastardly ozone eating cows!

Anita, maybe we should ban steaks in NYC too. Especially the way Ruth Chris serve it...on a hot plate of butter. Dont be the food police.

...and in case you havent been reading the news lately, its the green onions and spinach thats killing people. Good luck with that salad.

anita said...

i'm not for banning steaks. i just don't personally like eating steakit's my personal preference, my body just can't handle it, it's too heavy.

but there is schlosser's (the author of fast food nation) point that the cattle industry as well as the overall industrialization of food production that has resulted in some pretty unhealthy practices that hurt both the people working in the industry and the people who eat the food.

and now we find out that this 'over production' is having an affect on greenhouse gasses (no pun intended).

anita said...

and i hate to say it here, but *one* of the causes of these e-coli breakouts is the lack of oversight by this country of produce coming from other countries.

Rhino-itall said...

yeah, and the farm workers coming from other countries too....namely mexico.

anita said...

the meat processing industry is rife with undocumented, untrained workers. that way the big production companies cut down on labor costs and avoid lawsuits for egregiously unsafe working conditions.

Rhino-itall said...

screw em, if they're here illegally they're criminals and don't deserve safe working conditions or higher wages.

anita said...

so don't you think someone should go after the *good upstanding american corporations* that profit off the backs of these people, these *criminals*? why don't they just provide a living wage and safe working conditions and hire american citizens?

gary said...

Cows taste good.

Rhino-itall said...

yes anita, i DO think someone should go after these corporations who hire illegals, but who's gonna do it? the federal government that invites them in?

anita said...

i think the federal government has two separate and distinct issues here. first, the illegal immigrant issue, plus the issue of the working conditions -- whether for legals or illegals (to which you can add an ancillary, but equally important issue, which is the food safety issue). schlosser gives some pretty gruesome examples of incidents that occur in some of these meat-packing plants, which, if you ponder them, you wouldn't be saying that beef is so tasty any more).

Dont be a Debbie Downer. Living in NY as you do Anita, you know better than to question the food industry. If you did you'd never eat again.

First rule of food club.
Dont talk about food club.

...but I also agree that holding the corps accountable should be the first line of defense against this illegal invasion.

Anonymous said...

Thats funny when I said that we should focus on the corporations that hire them and of we did there would be less incentive to come...you guys disagreed and said something like "what part of ILLEGAL do you not understand".

Or was DOnkey on crack again? Like last night?
Anyway, I'm with you Anita on this one.

For example, this issue with Taco Bell and the deliberate decisions surrounding the mishandling that could have resulted in dead kids with their knowledge.

Where's the Board of Health? WHere's the outrage?

Stupid people will line up at Taco Bell anyway, the FDA and the rest will be useless bureaucracies in the pockets of business, and nobody will be looking out for us.

Thats my damn problem with it. Why pay these clowns when they dont do anything anyway?

Go Alec Baldwin!!!

You are wrong Lily. I have never said corps shouldnt be held accountable, but I misspoke in my prior comment.

The first line of defense should be securing the border first, then and only then can we root out the cause of them coming here (i.e. jobs)

As usual you were probably arguing something else in your mind unbeknownst to us, but seriously "what part of ILLEGAL do you not understand".

...and I wasnt on crack last night. Dont fault me because my humor goes over your head. Try and keep up.

Rhino-itall said...

First things first. Build a wall or fence.

Second arrest and deport the criminals

Third, go after the companies (large and small) who hire them.

OR, do all three at the same time.
either way something needs to be done.

Rhino-itall said...

Oh by the way, we also need to eliminate the socialist policy of minimum wage and the socialist/communist unions.

In fact, you could make the argument that these two things are what forces these big corporations and especially smaller businesses to hire illegals in the first place. It just doesn't make any sense for a mom and pop restaurant to hire someone that they HAVE TO PAY 10 per hour when they can pay a criminal 5.

gary said...

Good plan Rhino. It's not going to happen. The powerful economic interests that control both parties do not want it to happen. The Republicans will continue to try to make this an issue by pretending to do something but it the long run it hurts them unless they actually do something. Which they won't.

Answer this question: why is illegal immigration bad? You cannot answer "because it's illegal" because if that is the only reason you have, the problem could be solved by legalizing it.

Anonymous said...

You know Z, Im beginning to see a pattern with you. No what what the issue, youre just a negative fuck. Nothing personal.

Its bad from a human rights perspective. Illegal immigrants are often raped, abused, and treated like shit but they cant do alot about it and the employer knows it.

I dont quite get why people that are concerned about human rights think that this is a good scenario.

Now this could turn into an immigration debate and I dont think thats the point But I dont think its only an economic issue.

I dont like the idea that they dont pay taxes but I REALLY dont like the idea that because of the criminality they cannot do anything when they are hurt.

A person desperate is going to do what they need to do-cross borders, sew sneakers, whatever. But if the jobs werent waiting they would not come, and if we enforced a rational immigration policy we might not have the exploitation we see.

And Rhino I do recall that remark about illegals but apparently Donkeyhue is the spokesperson on it. It was not here, at was at LTN blog. Whatever.

Anonymous said...

I am the spokesman on what?

You accused me of saying something I didnt and having a position that I dont. I called you out on it. You were wrong, so stop youre crying or "whatever" and get over it.

Its bad from a human rights perspective. Illegal immigrants are often raped, abused, and treated like shit but they cant do alot about it

Well they could always move back home. Enough with the victim bullshit. Of course all those things you mentioned are horrible, but dont you dare fucking try and turn this around how the poor little innocent immigrants are being treated so fuckin unfairly by the big bad Americans. Fuck them.

Merry Christmas.

So, Rhino thinks that the problem is that poor people make too much money (because of a minimum wage that hasn't been raised in nine years) and that labor unions should be banned (sounds like fascism.)

And Donkey refused to answer my question about illegal immigration, but calls me a negative fuck for my obviously correct assessment that neither Republicans or Democrats are going to do a damn thing about illegal immigration.
