i think the only reason pelosi backed murtha was because she knew hoyer was going to win and she needed to show some loyalty to the guy who broke open the anti-war movement.

No way anita. Unless she's just a complete idiot. And unfortunately i don't think she is. In fact, she took the extra step of sending letters to the other members asking them to vote for murtha. I'm no expert on this but from what i read today this never happens. The majority leader stays out of the way. She just hates Hoyer. Apparently she only won the minority leader post by a couple of votes over him a few years ago, and that was only because she had a huge contingent in California that went with her 100%.

She's been criticized for being too emotional in her decision making, and it looks like the criticism was correct. And now she looks weak.

"She's been criticized for being too emotional in her decision making"

i hate to cry sexism, but that statement (and i realize you are only repeating what you heard) is utterly dripping with it.

Pelosi may have made a mistake going with Murtha but Hoyer's victory shows that democracy is alive in the Democratic party. Meanwhile, the Repubs have elected Trent Lott--there's a new face.

Donsky was it a grudge? or was it hubris?

I think it was the latter.

I'm with grudge.

What says Drudge?

Of course you are lily. In that case though i say she's either making decisions based on emotion, or she's stupid. Because she loses in this one, and if it was a grudge then she knew she was going to lose before she did it.
