Recently the topic of Kenny Loggins came up (dont ask dont tell), and it got me thinking about the man, his career, and his legacy (or actually whether or not he has one). Immediately the images of nefarious gophers, maverick F-14's and dancing Bacon came to mind. Could this be the sum of The Loggins Legacy I ask myself, not satisfied with the answer I delved deeper into his discography. I found a few more nuggets that would have made Casey Kasem proud, but although I couldnt exactly say I disliked his hits, and could probably even see myself piss drunk at a pub singing along to a few bars, I came to the conclusion that Loggins was a hack. No more than a glorified Eddie Rabbitt or a skinny Eddie Money. At this point my Loggins quest is just about over and Im ready to put the issue to bed but then out of corner of my great googley moogely eye I see a search result that sparks my interest.
Needless to say I was incensed. Hall of Fame? I think not. A good career certainly. Bonafide hits without a doubt, but Hall of Famer he is not. The guy had 10 top 10's, and if you take away duets and movie soundtracks that leaves him with 3. So basically his career is Caddyshack, Top Gun, and Footloose which isnt necessarily a bad thing but hes not deserving of being Cleveland bound. I wont insult him by comparing him to Brady Anderson who had one juiced up break out year and then disappeared. He's probably closer to a combination of George Foster, Ben Oglivie , Joe Carter, and throw in Dave Kingman to boot. All had great careers with some HUGE years, but none are in the Hall...so therefore I have deducted that Loggins doesnt deserve to be there either. Write to the Music Hall of Fame AND...

Kenny Loggins in the RRHOF? That seriously sucks. Dire Straits isn't in the RRHOF and Kenny Loggins is?
HUH?
And never ever mention Geogre Foster or Cecil Cooper in the same sentence as Dave Whiff Kingman!
I don't hate Kenny Loggins...well really, when I think about it, I do hate him, so nevermind!
Thats my point Jim...hes not in yet, but theres a campaign to get him in... IT MUST BE STOPPED.
as far as Kingman...big deal he had 400+ more SO's than Big George he also had a hundo more dingers.
ummm i'm leaving myself open for some beat downs here, but what about the loggins and messina days? "your mama don't dance and your daddy don't rock and roll"
RE: Kingman vs Foster
Even though 'Kong' was obviously the superior HR hitter, would it shock you to know that Foster has a +.002 SLG over him?
hahaha You dang Metropolitan-lovers. ;)
And Rhino, I'm gonna kick yer ass if you mention Kenny Loggins and that Messina guy again. j/k
Your daddy don't dance blah blah blah. :(
Flyin into the Danger Zone...jimshitz
Not to mention Dann'y Song which is an all time good romantic ballad. Don't player hate since I bet you all know which song I am talking about..."People smile and tell me I'm a lucky one, and we've just begun, think I'm gonna have a son...and even though we ain't got money I'm so in love w/ya honey and everything will bring a change in laaaaauuuvv..." Yeah I have a gay side, wanna fight about it. I'm all for putting Kenny in the Hall as long as Mark Knofler or however you spell his name is kept out...I mean how many people know the words to "Romeo & Juliet" or is it just "Juliet"? Also Dave Kingman was blackballed by baseball. He could've easily gotten to 500 Hrs but no team would sign him at the end of his career. He was not a very likable character but he hit balls further than anyone I have ever seen play.
Hmm knows "Romeo & Juliet"./ Impressed. But that whole "Making Movies" album sucked, but other than that, can't playahate Knopfler & the boys. The guy is a guitar & song-writing genius. One listen to "Sultans of Swing" and all bets are off. Or "Telegraph Road" or "One Every Street". Now that's some songwriting.
(Trivia: he also wrote Tina Turner's #1 hit, PRIVATE DANCER, a song in which he never recorded)
SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT KONG KINGMAN!!!!! Sick of it.
Nah j/k, am in a fun mood today, so I am messing with youze guys.
In a trivia mood: Dave Kingman is the only player to play for (then) all 4 divisions in the same year. (If you know which 4 without lookin' yer purdy good).
For what it's worth, the guy other than Mark McGwire I saw hit the ball farthest was weak-hitting Ron Karkovice, the ChiSox backstop. Saw him hit one about 450' in the old Arlington Stadium where the wind blew in all the time. Hitting one 450' there is prolly like hitting one 550' somewhere else. But anyway...
Dave probably played in every division over the course of his career but what four in same year...I thought he mainly moved around the NL...
Dave once hit a ball out of Wrigley field and down the street. Legend has it that it hit some woman's doorbell and she came and answered the door. The ball was lying on her welcome mat. He also hit a ball off a train going by Yankee stadium when it was open to the trains going through before 80's rennovations...That one is harder to beleive knowing the logistics back then...He did stick one in the roof at the Astordome though...
Let's see (I know you'll prolly check on me to see if I screwed it up) umm..
1978?
In NO particular order...
The AL West: Angels
The AL East: Yanks
The NL East: Mets (boooo!)
The NL West: Padres
Right? Wrong? Tie?
Oh well...Kenny is in so i guess we have to say congratulations to him...with a song from a major movie production. Call me we'll do lunch.
