Appeasement Al-Qaeda and Still Abortion

What up with failed democrats that think once some time passes that they somehow become relevant again??? First Carter, then Mondale (to a lesser degree), Bubba, algore, Kerry...but McGovern? This is getting frickin ridonkulous. When you go down, show some class and stay down.

EE-Aw!!!

By George, Let's Lose Another War!

"George McGovern, the former senator and Democratic presidential candidate, said Thursday that he will meet with more than 60 members of Congress next week to recommend a strategy to remove U.S. troops from Iraq by June," the Associated Press reports from Lincoln, Neb.

Well, let's not make too much of this. It turns out that the group with which McGovern is meeting is "the Congressional Progressive Caucus, a 62-member group led by Reps. Lynn Woolsey and Barbara Lee." Rep. Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against authorizing military action against al Qaeda in 2001.

Still, 62 Democrats are enough to make up slightly over one-fourth of the new congressional majority, and it's mildly unsettling to consider that such a significant faction would agree with nonsense such as this:

McGovern told the audience Thursday that the Iraq and Vietnam wars were equally "foolish " and that the current threat of terrorism developed because--not before--the United States went into Iraq.

McGovern must have a really short memory. For his information, here's a timeline:

Dec. 29, 1992: Al Qaeda bombs a hotel in Aden, Yemen, and attempts to bomb a second one, unsuccessfully targeting U.S. Marines staying there.

Feb. 26, 1993: Al Qaeda bombs World Trade Center, killing six adults and an unborn child.

Feb. 22, 1998: Osama bin Laden issues a fatwa declaring war on the U.S.

Aug. 7, 1998: Al Qaeda bombs U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing more than 220.

Oct. 12, 2000: Al Qaeda attacks USS Cole in Aden, killing 17 sailors.

Sept. 11, 2001: Al Qaeda attacks World Trade Center and Pentagon with hijacked planes, killing some 3,000 people, mostly civilians.

December 2002: George McGovern, in an essay for Harper's, blames America for terrorism.

March 20, 2003: Operation Iraqi Freedom begins.

So not only does the terrorist threat long predate the liberation of Iraq, but so does McGovern's claim that America is to blame for it. Hard to believe the people of Massachusetts actually voted for this guy. "

I'm sure what he is saying is that our policies are creating more terrorists than we are killing. Undeniably true.

McGovern: right about World War II (decorated veteran), right about Vietnam, right about Iraq.

I'm dating myself here but my first presidential vote at 18 was for George McGovern.

There you go again with your interpretations. I dont give a shit what you think he said or meant. He said what he said, he means it, hes wrong and thats that.

Maybe in yours and McGoverns magical world of make believe terrorism will cease to exist when we leave Iraq, but Im afraid in the real world thats not going to happen.

Out of curiousity...how was he right about WWII?

Your answer quite frankly doesnt matter...its all the same drivel from you.

By WWII I assume you are referinng to how he fought valiantly in the European campaign against countries that posed no threat to us. The war that FDR lied and manipulated us into by illegaly imposing a blockade on Japan contrary to our neutral status prior to Pearl Harbor as a favor to his Uncle Joe. Or is it that we pre-emptively declared war on a nation that did not attack us.

Which one is it? Thank god people like you didnt have the voice then that you have now or youd be eating your tofu veggie burger with chopsticks.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the people of mass. voted for this guy.

Zontar, do any dems ever say what they mean?

Sac voice. The worst thing we could do right now is bring our troops home. Nobody wants any more bloodshed (on our side), but the truth is that Iraq is the truly the front lines in a global war on terror. Al qaida has stated they have over 12000 fighters there! If we weren't there, where would those animals be?
