Because you here the last line so often, and it is used to imply all kinds of different things, but it was a call to arms, a call to war. Most people have never read the whole thing. Where are the Patrick Henry's of our generation? Certainly it's not Murtha, or Kerry! It's not Mccain or Clinton!
It is in vain, sir, to extentuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace--but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I don't know about rove, but Bush and Cheney have been on point in the war on terror from the beginning.
Well, yes, I guess their handling of the War on Terror (TM) has been a great success. A short list of their accomplishments:
1) The stunningly successful mission that captured Osama bin Laden.
2) Our forces in Iraq being greeted as liberators, making a prolonged occupation unneccessary.
3) The fact that the Iraqi war has paid for itself from the sale of Iraqi oil.
4) The wildly successful Flying Pigs program.
Well gary, we have been successful in liberating 26 million people from an evil despot, and of course theres the thousands of terrorists that we've killed, and the terror plots we've uncovered and stopped and a whole list of other accomplishments that i could point to.
More importantly, they've accomplished this with half of congress fighting us every step of the way.
About those 26 million people in Iraq. Oddly enough 91.7% of them are opposed to the US occupation (latest Pew poll.)
Well the thing about polls is that the questions can be designed to derive the answer that you want to hear.
For example if you ask 1000 households with termite problems...
Would they like an exterminator to rid their home of bugs: 99% would say yes
or
Would they like the exterminator to move in or "occupy" their home: 99% would say no
So in other words, Im throwing the bullshit flag and saying that people who use polls to enhance their argument are weak minded weather vane pussies. Isnt it bad enough that our leaders are beholden to polls do we really need millions of idiots running around forsaking their own mind for the skewed numbers of some hack with a calculator.
