Are You Ready For Some Donkey

A few donkservations about tonights MNF. I like the new broadcast team. They were a little too self serving and preachy for my taste regarding Katrina, but I suppose that was to be expected with such an emotional game. The good of the works should be enough, noone is really impressed that you took a tour of the Eighth Ward (the only area ever affected by a natural disaster in this country ever) or cut a check to the Red Cross so stop trying to be big shots. I got a friend that packed his car and drove to N'Awlins within days to help and didnt say a word of it then and barely a peep now, but I rant...back to the booth Suzy. (I wanna kiss ya Suzy)

They aint bad. Its always a pleasure to watch Joe Theisman, who I think is a major tool, but watching him brings back fond memories of LT breaking his leg, which makes Donkey happy. Kornheiser is a smart ass know-it-all Jew, and I like it. Those are the same traits that I look for in an accountant, attorney or drinking buddy for trivia pub night. Mike Tirico is the glue that'll hold it all together, a knowledgeable even keeled guy that will provide a good balance. Im a big fan. (cue: Springsteen). Ive been a big fan of Tirico since he called a Lacrosse Game Of The Week upstate (he was a recent SU grad and worked at a local station) that I played in a hundred years ago and he interviewed me afterwards and presented me with Player Of The Game. Glory days well they'll pass you by. Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye. Glory days, glory days. Ok I think Ill head down to the pub now for a few... be back after a six pack.

Great performance by Green Day and U2. Two bands that allow an old ass like me to get away with that cross between a record store clerk and your curmudgeonly grandfather attitude. "I remember those guys back in the day when they used to play at Filthy McDrunkards for beer nuts and we had to walk through a blizzard blindfolded backwards and uphill to see them". It gives you a chance to feel a little bit rock-n-roll, but at the same time be comfortable with being a sell-out. "Its my little way of sticking it to the man. But you are the man. I know. So youre sticking it to yourself? Maybe."

Its painful to watch yet another young innovative coach in the NFL that used to work for the Giants. Im a Sean Payton fan and I wish him luck with the Saints. I'll save my Fire Coughlin rant for after the bye week.

Michael Vick just aint a good Quarterback. Simple as that.

Big ups to Spike Lee for taking the high road when asked about Katrina. He got his message across by saying he "wasnt gonna pull a Kanye" without explicitly bashing the President. But predicting Isiah as "NBA Coach of the Year" is a bit of a stretch

Congratulations to the Saints and their fans on a big homecoming win. To those that say sports arent important and in the grand scheme of things dont really matter, well maybe youre right but Im throwing the hogwash flag anyways. For me personally, watching Piazza hit that monster dinger on 9/21/01 at Shea was one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. It allowed me and millions of others to cheer for something, to feel joy, to come together in the moment with other New Yorkers and be proud. It didnt bring our brothers and sisters back or rebuild the Twin Towers, but for an instant the pain was gone and it felt good. Likewise a football game wont erase the tragedy of Katrina or make the levees stronger, but for a few hours maybe it allowed them a respite from the shitstorm.

Lets Go Saints! (until 12/24..then y'all can go F yourselves)

I probably shouldnt admit this, but I was stone sober when I wrote this.

Rhino, your insightful comment reminded me of Team America, World Police...the movie from the South Park dudes. Funny stuff.
