As long as Ive been politically inclined, Ive seen the need for viable alternatives. In 1980 I voted for Anderson in my grade school mock election, and the first time my vote counted as an a dolt, I rolled up my sleeves, grabbed up on that lever and flipped the switch for Perot.
Ive long called for a third party, but in recent years have called for a fresh start. Death to GOP and the democrats. Death I say. Truth be told, they are on life support as is....they just dont realize it yet, and the lack of options at the booth has prolonged the inevitable and necessary demise of the failed two party political system. Once again I nominate myself as the leader of this revolt, and in the fine tradition of Teddy, hereby name this movement the Bull Donkey Party.
Ok thats enough from me for now, Ill let my woman take it from here....
"Partisanship is fine when it's an expression of the high animal spirits produced by real political contention based on true political belief. But the current partisanship seems sour, not joyous. The partisanship has gotten deeper as less separates the governing parties in Washington. It is like what has been said of academic infighting: that it's so vicious because the stakes are so low."

Yup. I am in strange agreement with this. I just don't feel that either offers much I can get behind. I find excitment and passion in third party candidates- and little in the pander-monium we endure from the rest.I want some fiscal responsibility, some accountbaility, some cheapness with the public purse but some reasonable basic safety nets.
I want government out of my house, bed, soul, body, mind, and I want them to work for the people that elect them and pay them. And answer for what they spend- taxpayer rights. I want regulation where it protects and serves the public good but not where it trumps rights.
I want the environment protected both for beauty reasons and for resources, and think both sides need to find common ground and also recognize the right of people to live free of harm, pollution, toxins, etc.
I don't think any of them fit the description, but really I think I am describing what many Americans want. I think most people do not want the religious right hijacking the law any more than you guys want liberals hosting the great American free-for-all. Religion and wealth redistribution need to be dealt with rationally.
Where do people like me go, Donkey, other than crazy? :)
Well, I can't believe I'm agreeing with Peggy Noonan. But I think she's got it exactly right: "a new group or entity that could define the problem correctly--that sees the big divide not as something between the parties but between America's ruling elite and its people--would be making long strides in putting third party ideas in play in America again."
you can't believe you agree with peggy noonan? If you said ann coulter i could understand because she tries to piss you off on purpose, but peggy noonan? This is the first time you've agreed with her?
Anyway, i love peggy noonan, and of course i agree that we need at least one more party. we can call it the bull donkey party but again if we're going to have a nominee for president it would have to be me. I'm handsome, i'm smart, i am a great public speaker, AND i'm very humble! just ask me...
i just don't like peggy noonan. she's not cringeworthy like coulter, but she's, uh, very panderific, in my opinion. and she's very affected in interviews. with her hair and everything. i want to scream, stop it! plus, i really disliked her moussaoui article.
and not to mention, rhinoculous, you're HOT! you said so yourself.
Yeah, i am pretty hot but i'm humble so i didn't want to bring that up....... peggy noonan is affected? what does that mean? do you have a problem with her hair? i think she's attractive.
Noonan is hot, plus she digs me.
well i don't know if she digs you, but i bet she uses the same old ass sayings that you use...
it's not that i don't think she's attractive, she's definitely quite attractive. but she's just one of these women who is always playing with her hair in interviews ... it drives me crazy ... it's a kind of self-consciousness that bothers me. it's just a pet peeve of mine ... that's all.
ok rhino, i won't say you're hot any more. i don't want to embarrass you.
noonan is too old for you donkeyhue. plus she goes for that suave sophisticated type.
I'll make an exception.
but will she?
Well, I am rocking a pocket square today. Is that suave and sophisticated enough?
However, I get the feeling she prefers a dirty, not a dapper donkey, and thats what I do best.
Then warfare it will be. Its good to see those peacenik canucks didnt corrupt you.
Donsky the overall structure doesn't need to change. If a populist movement is co opted "eventually" then we will as a people create a new one.
The electoral process doesn't need to be changed. The electoral college is fair and has and will continue to serve us well.
Plus the burdensome process for third parties to even get onto ballots...ridiculous. I actually worked with libertarians on the damned principle of it.
