The Age Of Algore-ious

I may not be a scientist, but as an avid outdoorsman I think I am more qualified than Al Gore to comment on the current global non-crisis. The reason and the solution can be solved in one breath (or lack thereof).

Liberals think global warming is worse than I (and many climate experts) believe it is, because they talk too god damn much, and are surrounded by a bozone layer of their own hot air. Problem.

So if only the liberals greenbacks would just pipe down for one year, my studies indicate that the moon would be in the Seventh House and Jupiter would align with Mars and then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars. So zip it hippies. Solution.

Hippie Bias? Nah

i am aquarius, or aquarian?

is this about me?

Rhino --- coincidence? I think NOT:

Aquarius Character Traits

The symbol for Aquarius is the water-carrier, bearing the woes of humanity on his back. It's also two wavy lines, which stand for the serpents of ancient wisdom or the airwaves of modern mass communication.

'I KNOW' is the motto for Aquarius. You have an original and inventive mind and can take the long view. You also have a scientific or technological bent.

You're altruistic, unconventional and broad-minded. Friendship is very important to you and you enjoy the camaraderie of working in a team or with a group of people, especially if it's towards a common aim. Your circle of friends encompasses people from different backgrounds and anyone is welcome, so long as they've got something interesting to say.

Your zeal to make the world a better place can become fanaticism and your certainty that you're right, dogmatic.

You are the reformers of the zodiac.

Did you just call Rhino a waterboy...

no. I did not call him a waterboy.

(although, i recall the band, the waterboys, who had a wonderful song called 'the whole of the moon')

anyway, my point was this: 'I KNOW' is the motto for Aquarius.

get it: rhino-it-all !!

(i feel like i'm channeling mctrixie these days ...)

i think it's just coincidence, i actually do know-it-all.

I saw a comedian on HBO the other night, named Louis Black.

He talked about George Bush and his creationist beliefs. Naturally, it was pretty hilarious.

It reminded me of so many people on the right who consider the phenomenons of "global warming" and "environmental change" to be a "partisan" issues. Yes, the Corporate Right, and even some factions of the Christian Right, have their own reasons as to why it's ok to suck up and spit out the earth's dwindling resources.

But in the end, the reality is that humanity has used up a large percentage of the earth's petroleum resources, we have polluted large bodies of water rendering them incapable of supporting fish and wildlife, we have destroyed not only the rain forests but obliterated almost every primeval forest remaining on the planet. In U.S. we have not done the work necessary to protect our shorelines and our coastal cities. And, as many respected scientists and scientific organizations will and do attest, the rapid and continuing industrialization of the United States, and now the Third World countires, has, and is continuing to result the rise in average temperature of the planet, and thus putting at risk the lives and livelihoods of millons of people and nations.

It's not a f-ing "hippie" or "liberal" issue. It's a global phenomenon that goes beyond politics. And it disgusts me the way something like this is marginalized down to a ridiculous, petty squabble among cynical people who think (or want people to believe) they know a lot. But really don't.

Anita you are right that its not a political issue and its a shame the likes of algore have made it one, as well as all the hippies and commies that so ignorantly blame any percieved climate changes on a man that has been in power for six year.

Everything you else said is just flat out WRONG, but lets suppose you arent.

Isnt this how its meant to be. All you Darwin cult followers preach evolution and surival of the fittest when its convenient to knock God...but if true, isnt this the natural order of things? Mankind won, and to the victor goes the spoils.

Fuck the earth!

anita, calm down. the earth has been warming and cooling forever. we can't do anything about it.

what is the reason for resources? are we supposed to look at them? what are these resources there for?
Man is clever enough to figure out how to use something that is naturally here and you think it's a bad thing? so if we run out of oil, who cares? when it becomes so scarce that it is cost prohibitive we'll figure something else out.

even more importantly, why pick on the U.S.? I haven't done ANY research on this but i would bet that amongst industrialized nations we're the least harmful to the environment. Why not go after the french, or the russians? i bet you the russians aren't doing anything good for the environment!

I know for a fact that in Greece they have whole seas that can't sustain fish because they've done so much strip mining. what's up with that? No mention of them anywhere in your comments?

stop listening to the alarmists, global warming may or may not be happening, but it's not because of anything that we do

Lily said...

Least harmful to the environment? How can that be if we consume 25% of its resources for such a small percent of global population? If you did not research why say something so ridiculous?

I can't even get into this thread, its just that ridiculous.

You have actually no basis for saying Gore is politicizing this. Its just your rationale for being dismissive. He has been working on this for thirty years and he is not running for anything. But your hatred for the left, Gore, and everything you think we stand for makes you somehow indifferent to reality.

There is no debate, not anywhere. Only among freaks and exxon puppets.

Perhaps resources are for the taking, but didn't Katrina consume resources? You need to put more thought into crafting this resources argument, its flimsy. Further, why not look at wind or solar as a resource? What is political about using alternative energy with less emissions?

whatever.

Mookie McFly said...

In my industry we are creating energy from wind already as well as garbage...but their are people out there who have a problem with any kind of change and not just conservatives actually just the opposite. Wind to energy and the technology takes up massive amounts of space and burning garbage isn't popular because, well, it's burning garbage. But they are viable already existing alternatives and it seems that the same people who want to claim that we are running out of resources are the same people who have problems with the alternatives at least in my experience.

I posted a George Carlin rant after Katrina as I thought it was pretty important to point out that you can't really blame anyone for natural disasters (unless you are crazy and believe GW blew up the levies) but here is what he said that applies here and is sort of what Rhino was pointing at...

"Regardless of what the Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton want you to believe, The US Government didn't create the Hurricane as a way to eradicate the black people of New Orleans (Neither did Russia as a way to
destroy America)."

Here's the pertinent part -

"The US Government didn't cause the global warming that caused the hurricane.
(We've been coming out of an ice age for over a million years)"

Funny because George Carlin is as liberal as I am pink (I hate it when people call me "white" as I am more of a pinkish hue!)

Anonymous said...

Whenever you get a chain email crediting Carlin, disregard it, as 99% of the time its not his work. Its similar to when liberals call into talk radio/tv and claim to be former Republicans, they think it will add validity to their argument just as when conservatives rant and cite the liberal Carlin, thinking it will give creedence to theirs.

As a rule of thumb If I agree with it, its not from Carlin (or I just snopes.com it)

There is no debate???

Well actually there is. To quote just one scientist from the article I linked...

Richard S. Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, wrote:

“A general characteristic of Mr. Gore's approach is to assiduously ignore the fact that the earth and its climate are dynamic; they are always changing even without any external forcing. To treat all change as something to fear is bad enough; to do so in order to exploit that fear is much worse.” - Lindzen wrote in an op-ed in the June 26, 2006 Wall Street Journal

You have actually no basis for saying Gore is politicizing this.

Well actually I do. To quote just one fear mongering sky is falling chicken little...

Gore accused the Bush administration of ignoring the threat at the behest of the energy industry and "wealthy right-wing ideologues" that contribute heavily to the president's re-election campaign.
"While President Bush likes to project an image of strength and courage, the truth is that in the presence of his large financial contributors, he is a moral coward,"
from his Jan 15, 2004 Beacon Theater speech (on the coldest day in NYC in almost 50 years and 3 degrees off the coldest ever recorded)

Otay, massur, i's jus tryin ta get sum spec up in her...

Seriously, you are probably right but whoever said it was right. Global Warming is a theory. I'm not sure why people act like it is a fact...and while running out of natural resources isn't a theory, the way to go about solving it isn't rejecting the viable alternatives and thus creating more questions. Solar paneling is only a viable alternative if you work five minutes away from home and have two hours to get there. Wind related technology could be but it isn't really approachable since we don't have enough space to set up the technology, plus it's not gonna make your Yugo uh-go-go. More than likely, the next form of energy we'll use will also be of the natural variety but concocted with chemicals. Whatever happens someone isn't going to like it and Al Gore will still be hawking his manbearpig theories.

Rhino-itall said...

So lily, we use the most resources... again i say SO WHAT??? you said so yourself, "resources are for the taking" so we take them!
Why is that harmful to the environment?
Wind, Solar, those are great and i'm not anti renewable sources of energy, so as soon as they're viable and effective i will be more than glad to drive a solar car, but until then i'll stick to gasoline. Have fun sailing to work today!
