Im getting a kick out of how every loony lib out there is equating Patrick Kennedy's recent trouble with those of Rush Limbaugh. Not even close. Before I let The Great One take over I would like to make a few points.
First off, as popular and successful as Rush is, he is a radio personality, a glorified circus barker if you will. Im not saying this to disparage him, as I am a big fan, but to point out the huge difference between an entertainer and an elected official such as Patrick Kennedy. Im of the philosophy that politicians are the anti-Dove soap and are 99% scumbags. I also happen to give them the benefit of the doubt, until that time when their ruse is uncovered and they get caught with their pants down (bubba) or asleep/drunk at the wheel (teddy and patrick).
Which brings me to my next point before the hippies start crying illegal wiretaps, blood for oil, etc. We have a legal process in this country and Rush went through it. He was arrested, the DA tried to build a case against him...couldnt, case was dropped. Thats that.
Kennedy illegally avoided the field sobriety test resulting in officers on the scene being reprimanded. He avoids criminal charges and walks away with a few traffic citations plus a paid vacation to Raw-chaw-chaw. If a recent commenters assertion that Rhode Island is ga-ga for Pat Kennedy, there will be no repercussions come election time.
Shouldnt we hold our elected officials to higher standards? And when they are proven guilty or in Patrick Kennedys case, admits to breaking the law by driving a motor vehicle while impaired, shouldnt they lose the position to in which we entrusted them.
and now The Great One

I saw some chick this weekend on one of the morning talk shows saying that this was no different than Rush, and the thought of it was so idiotic to me.
Now if you want to say they're equal, then why not treat them equally?? why hasn't this guy been arrested? have his medical records and doctors gotten a subpeona? Is the DA building a case? trying to build a case?
Of course not, and as i said in an earlier comment, i don't think we'll be seeing howard dean snorting on tv any time soon!
The guy should resign either way.
Well Donkey, before you judge this case I think you should take Phenergan and Ambien, maybe have a drink or two, and then report back to us. If we don't see you on the six o'clock news that is.
i don't want to speak out of turn here, but i would imagine that the donkey has done worse, and NOT gotten into his car!
And if this was an isolated incident, MAYBE we should give the guy a break, but he's had numerous problems. The fact that he hasn't killed anyone yet is just pure luck! If someone had been crossing the street that night, or driving home with their children and he had run into them and killed them we wouldn't even be talking about this. I mean who gets away with killing people when they're drunk? ...... oh that's right he's a kennedy. Never mind
being a drunk or whatever is not such a big deal. In fact it's completely forgivable in my opinion. But when you know you have a problem, you don't get in your car. I especially don't have any sympathy for someone who can easily afford a driver/bodyguard to make sure he gets around ok.
Again, if it was the first time, you could say "no harm no foul" but it's not.
Dude could have just walked to the Westin Hotel.
Actually, I keep forgetting that this happened in Washington and not Providence.
rlimbaugh and pkennedy are two entirely different situations. it's like apples and oranges, as they say.
