I got an email from a friend today, we've mentioned him before, he lives in Moscow. I thought it was interesting and i wanted to share a piece of it with you.
One disturbing thing here: Racism is getting very overt. Skinheads are killing or beating up people from the Caucuses and African students almost every day. They stabbed a 9-year-old Tajik girl to death in Petersburg a while back. Police rarely catch the perpetrators, and if they do, they are usually not convicted of any major crime.
A few days ago, cops showed up at my in-laws apartment. They were ordered to check all apartments in the area where Georgian families live. I don't let (my wife) go anywhere alone - she looks pretty typically Georgian, and that's not very safe right now.
Kind of makes you appreciate the US in a new way. That's what all those stupid anti-America jerks don't get - it's really much better there than anywhere else.

yeah, they are the wine country, and even though it can be imported cheaply, putins govt banned it on the fake premise of a health scare. His motivation was that Georgia is trying to join NATO.
