FOREWORD
Political passions fade with time, leaving their pale shadows to be recovered by historians who usually affect an objective, if not amused, detachment from them. American politics have seldom generated the fierceness of passion that they did in their first decade. The extravagant exchanges in the contests between Federalists and Republicans in the late 1790's seem today so to exceed the issues as to merit the patronizing dismissal that scholars have generally given them. After all, the nation survived, President John Adams did not secure the crown to which he allegedly aspired, and President Thomas Jefferson succeeded him without bloodshed. Accordingly the dire predictions of tyranny by journalists like Benjamin Bache and William Duane in their notorious newspaper, the Aurora, have become mere curiousities, extreme examples of the bad manners that political contests so often provoke. Edmund S. Morgan
The book is 'American Aurora' written by Richard N. Rosenfeld.

The word aurora is so funny in Chinese. The "Li" from Paris and and the Ming from Minnesota and the Ming Dynasty. Like getting married in Paris. Great.
There is a secondary definition, for northerners; "Polar Light".
And a third; what does "early week" or "early time period" have to do with "aurora"?
... so your point being:
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
... or something close to it?
wow ... i just noticed you added me to your 'enemies' list. i'm certifiably speechless (for once) aurorans. what an honor. thank you. :)
You can look at it as we added you to our "enemies" list or you could look at the glass as half full and that we want to sleep with you.
Either way, they are both indeed, honors.
indeed !!
I am an enemy three times. Does this mean you hate me two times more than Anita?
Great now the chicks want to know how I can read a misogynist book like 'American Psycho" which Gloria Steinem herself declared to be an affront to women everywhere and called to boycott. Because I said it's funny? I don't mean the hooker slicing. I mean the book is a comedy. Isn't it?
Boycotts make me want to read things more. I'm less worried about what fictitious characters are doing, than other things, truth be told.
What chicks are giving you beef? Leftofcenter, Dude, and Lew Scannon? Tell them to get of the teet of Oprahs and the ny times book club.
You may be on your own in gatorland but if those hippie chick/dudes mess wit you again...
I'll serve their ass like John MacEnroe
If your girls steps up, I'm smacking the hos
Ahh. Nothing quite like fine malt misogyny in the morning.
if we boycotted every misogynist book, there would be very few books in the library ... or in donkey's house for that matter. anyway. i say read and enjoy. brett easton ellis is over-rated anyway. nonetheless, i haven't read american psycho, but i'm sure it's hilarious and blood curdling and all that as well as a good read. i enjoyed less than zero back in the day. people take themselves far too seriously. even gloria "i used my playboy bunny looks and connections to get ahead as a feminist" steineim. so there.
i have the flu. i'm going to the doctor. hopefully it's not avian flu. if it is i'll probably be in quarantine for awhile.
On your reco Lil, Ill give it a read, I thought the movie was hilarious. You should look into that book 'American Aurora', I think youd enjoy it. In fact I think it should be required reading for all poli-bloggers.
I think all young woman should have to read "American Psycho" before they go to college or travel alone abroad (Lily, not a broad like a chick...notice I said young woman instead of girls, chicks, or bitches). Maybe there would be less date rapes & missing women reported if they realized that there are some pretty messed up dudes out there.
Anyway Donkey, do you own the book? Since I moved back to the burbs, I haven't gotten a library card so maybe I could borrow it from you. I'll let you borrow a David Sedaris book. I'll get on touch with my political side and you can get in touch with your Greek-drug using-homosexual side. Win Win...
LETS GO METS!!!
Why dont you just read it in installments for free at your local Borders while sipping mochachinnos with the rest of the hipster homo commie crowd...you fruity bastard.
and one last thing...
LETS GO METS!!!
That's a good idea...maybe I'll invite my newest favorite commie, Carlos Delgado with me. Anyone who is socially concious must be a commie!
Oh and by the way...
M-E-T-S METS METS METS!!!
LETS GO METS! WHOOMP!
LET ME HEAR A RIC FLAIR SECTION 9
Oh feel better Anita. Illness bites.
Yeah, Ellis is over rated but I think you either see it his way or not, like rap. if you just focus on the implications of the word "ho" and not on the rest, you just obsess about the word "ho" and its value and ignore the point sometimes. He is a social satirist but just too crude to be read by intellectual elitists that cannot get past the tortured hookers stuff. I mean, YEAH there's THAT.
See I disagree with the women that say porn and free speech degrade women (as many of them say) To me the idea that we need to somehow be protected by mind control and censorship just does not sit well with me. Is that empowering? Whether porn or something else, we are not so fragile that just the mere mention of words or some imagery can destroy us. Who should give anyone that kind of power? If I let you treat me like a whore, then i am giving you power to do so not because porn put the idea into your head. I don't get it, Anita. Give me the scoop on this thinking.
I just don't see it. I took Women's Studies, but still say censorship is bad in any case. Police-like states are far worse for women than free ones, historically. Clearly control is not the solution.
when i get back from the doc i'll give you my theory on 'power exchange' ...
oh, and on your question:
"I am an enemy three times. Does this mean you hate me two times more than Anita?"
this is how i see it according to the 'glass is half empty' logic: you get to sleep with them two times more than me.
lucky girl. or what?
Lily there is no IF i will treat you like a whore and you will like it.
Anita, we will not sleep with lily two times more than you, unless she's really into being treated like a whore and you're not.
Nothing better than a woman who enjoys being a whore. I don't mean acting like a whore just to make her man happy, (lots of women do that) I mean a woman who WANTS to do it. Thats hot.
I couldnt agree more Rhino. For reasons unbeknownst to me some twisted morality play of the past categorized whoring wrongly as a vice. When in fact its the other way around, and there is perhaps no greater virtuous trait in a woman than being a whore. So to paraphrase AC/DC..
For those about to whore
We salute you!
I agree that Sports truly transcended the "Top Forty" genre. I believe its the tempo of the sax.
I bet Rhino has fond memories of WBLI driving down Port listening to "The Heart of Rock N Roll". Is Tara Inn still there? Handlebar? Ever throw bottles at Murphy's? Damn I miss youth. Huey Lewis just brought it all back.
Damn. Do you play any old Sabbath?
I don't know if Tara is still there, i think it was replaced by Harleys and Honeys. biker bar with some really hot bartenders. kind of a coyote ugly type deal where they dance on the bar and shit. good show.
WBLI is cool, but it was too weak back in the day. i listened to z100, or kissfm back then with a little wrcn sprinkled in for some classic rock.
"I mean a woman who WANTS to do it. Thats hot." Hot because it happens so rarely?
no hot because it's hot. If it happens every day or once a year it's hot.
Is it "I am from hell" or "I am from heck"?
