Ted Kennedy voted against CAFTA. His reason? Well according to his own website he says:
Kennedy Opposed CAFTA to Protect American Jobs Senator Kennedy opposed the Bush Administration’s Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) because it failed to protect American jobs and the rights of workers in Central America.
So he wants to protect American jobs by not exporting work to Central America, but he has no problem importing cheap labor?
Harry Reid voted NO on CAFTA
Nancy Pelosi voted NO on CAFTA and even had this to say:
I oppose CAFTA because it is a step backward for workers in Central America and a job killer here at home...
and she said: “Unfortunately, that is not that kind of trade agreement before us tonight. Instead, we are considering a trade agreement that promotes a race to the bottom that hurts U.S. workers,
There's more, but the question is, how are we protecting American jobs by importing cheap labor, and encouraging more cheap labor to come?
Could it be that the dems are promoting amnesty and don't want to close the borders because they feel this would increase their voter base?
Hmmm, i wonder......

Ill tell you what, this nation owes a huge thanks to the millions of protesters the past few days. For the first time in a long time an event has cleared the smokescreen of bullshit clouding Washington. Everyone knows that our leaders are jackasses, but to witness how both parties simultaneously could get something so important so wrong should be a real eye opener to the average American.
So Thank You illegal immigrants...
NOW GET OUT
Isn't it the other way around Rhino? Wasn't George Bush counting on the "border" vote in the last election because Mexican-Americans and Cuban-Americans lean right?
Oh, and Donkey, I seem to recall just a short while ago that you were calling for all-out amnesty for illegal immigrants (or was it just illegal Irish immigrants ... or, maybe it was just for your illegal mother).
Anyway, what say you, Hue?
Anita says "Raise The Minimum Wage" ... and maybe more Americans will want to do "the work that Americans don't want to do."
No, it's not the other way around. Some hispanics, because of their catholic background tend to be more socially conservative, but most of the mexican immigrants are poor. poor people lean left because the dems like to give a man a fish and keep them dependent on the fisherman.
Plus, what i'm talking about in my post is the hypocrisy of the libs who voted against CAFTA, on the premise that it would hurt the low wage American worker, but then want to grant amnesty to the illegals which is already hurting the same people, plus would encourage even more illegals to come here and continue the problem.
If the motivation was protection for the anti cafta vote, what is the motivation for the pro amnesty position?
Anita is wrong for a couple of reasons.
1. there are no jobs Americans won't do
2. Raising the minimum wage wouldn't help because the illegals aren't making the min. wage now!
3. minimum wage is a socialist idea and should be eliminated altogether.
The average American has at least some education and knows exploitation when he or she sees it. Therefore, the bulk of those jobs that the illegal immigrant has no choice but to accept will NOT be taken by an American.
No it was just for the Irish.
Have you noticed they never specify what exactly "the jobs that Americans wont do' are?
here's one: picking strawberries in California.
I won't be a street walker. Not because I am an American but because I have small tits and a flat ass. I'd find it very hard to compete with the illegals who have much larger breastisis and bumpier cabooses.
Sorry, I know the comment policy but it had to be said...this is a job this American will not do!
Americans will can and do pick strawberries.
Mmmm strawberries, where do I apply? Mmmm California, I've heard the ads. I just have to go to my local liquor store to get to California. I'll pick up some Sonoma wine.
maybe in their own gardens they do. but not at the massive agri-business farms they don't.
and i'd argue that the bulk of grapes in wine country are harvested by "non-americans" ...
oh, and my apartment building is full of nanny's ... i don't think one of them is american, and i would presume that many are illegal.
could that be because nanny's are paid far less than minimum wage?
Anita, please tell me what company out there employs ONLY illegal immigrants? in fact, tell me what profession is over 50% non citizens, legal or illegal.
There is no such profession, or job. Not even farm workers/vegetable pickers are over 50% non citizens.
So who is doing these jobs if not the illegals? Hmmm....?
Eliminate the minimum wage, close down the border, and let people compete for jobs/legal employees.
If after that we have a labor shortage, by all means lets have a guest worker program.
Think about who this hurts the most. The poor, uneducated, usually minority people who can't get a better job and would gladly be a dishwasher for a half way decent wage can not compete with a migrant or illegal who is willing to work for $50 a day and lunch. these people can't afford to work as a dishwasher because it's less than they would get just in food stamps.
Who benefits? well mostly the wealthy white business owners who's bottom line continues to go up PLUS he/she doesn't pay any extra payroll taxes or soc. sec. taxes etc.
To me, this is just common sense.
They would on a larger scale if wages werent artificially lowered by the prevalence of the illegal immigrant population, and if the massive agri-business farms were penalized heavily for illegally hiring illegals.
what is your definition of a "half-way decent wage" ???
minimum wage is FAR from a "living" wage i would suggest.
Excuse me, and I will admit to not being as smart as my predecessor / rival on these issues, but it seems to me that I am agreeing with Donkeyhue.
The bottom line is that both parties are exposing themselves are hypocrital opportunistic pandering imbeciles.
The Dems: Need to appease the Unions and therefore have to oppose the NAFTA's and the CAFTA's, yet will pander to the illegal population as they think it'll translate into votes
The GOP: Need to appease big business and therefore endorse guest worker programs, yet they need to look tough on security as they think it'll translate into votes
They are both tools! This issue will be the death knell for both parties. Mark my word. So speaketh the Donkey
A halfway decent wage is whatever the market will yield in a free competitive environment.
i agree donkey. I did a post a long time ago saying basically the candidate who is tough on the illegals will be the next president.
and while you're at it...
Free Doc!!!
Ben i agree 100%.
And Don't squeeze the Doc. or something like that.
David Wright again!
Free Doc!
The mexicans are the 21st century Irish. Every generation, as we become more successful we need a group of people to come in and do the menial work.
Hello to all Foes and Hoes!!!
Warlike, even if that's true, we certainly don't need the numbers we have now, and if there's a demand for the labor after we close the borders we could increase the numbers allowed in, or have a guest worker program. Either way we need to address this situation because it is a problem
Time magazine had a photo of a chicken factory in Arkansas (probably Tyson) where 70% of the workers were illegal immigrants. If the Republican administration wants to do something about illegal immigrants taking American jobs how about putting the corporate executives of the chicken company in jail?
Gary, we finally agree on something, except it doesn't seem that the republicans want to do anything any more than the dems. And although i don't agree with putting them in jail, i do think starting with fines is a great idea.
Warlike you MIA bastard...drinks at the CRT Town NOW...METS win again!!!!
Lets do the roll call!!!
Hear John Sterling:
The Mets Win! The MMMEEEEEEEETTTSS Win~!
...and the Yankees squeak one out against the KC Royals. I guess when you outspend a team by 160 mil a year you squeak the really tough ones out!
HI, I liked this so much I copied it to my own blog and wrote a little more instead of just leaving a message. Hope this is not verboten, if so let me know, will remove immediately (or rather, write it myself). Thanks either way.

And, its been a few days and it looks good so I might as well leave it there, if its ok. I lived with TK at school for a year, in a big house; "Hey, John, would you turn down the music?" "Sure, Ted" "Thanks" was the extent of our conversation. I talked to him for a minute at a reunion once, too. Man spent most of his time off campus. He is close friends with Akiva "Kivi" Goldsman, whose Weed Road production company is kind of important now. "Done Deal", which costs $24 a year now, has long lists of all the scripts sold in Hollywood; Weed Road usually sells or buys two or three a month. TK is also very close to Richard Saperstein, who co-produced the $200mm+ bestseller "7" in 1995, I believe. So that's important for the disposition of the TK administration, isn't it?
Thanks again.
From Anita?

Isn't the minimum wage the same in the city as it is in Nashville? Or Kauai? Etc?
