Take This Job and Shove It?

"They are doing the jobs that Americans just won't do" U.S. President George W Bush
"they're willing to take jobs that even blacks won't do." Mexican president Vicente Fox

What jobs would that be? I haven't heard of any jobs that American citizens won't do.
The situation very simply is that businesses big and small are taking advantage of cheap illegal labor. There is no job that Americans will not do.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, illegal immigrants make up 17% of workers in building and maintenance, 14% in private households, 13% in the hospitality industry, and 11% in food preparation and serving.
Are these the jobs that Americans won't do?
Lets pass this new law, and make it a felony to employ illegal aliens and lets build that fence.

Racism maybe? Do the left or the right give a shit about exploiting the mexicans?
Corporate welfare maybe? Lots of big corporations give lots of big campaign contributions and hire lots of illegals.
Cost prohibitive? Is the minimum wage the reason why some of these companies, especially the small landscapers need to hire the illegals for a hundred bucks a day?
Mexican racism? you ever notice that the bus boy at the diner looks like a native and vicente fox looks european? They are exporting the undesirables, and the uneducated.
More bullshit, most illegals are unskilled day laborers or off the books working for cash, so when people tell you they pay for themselves that's just a lie. They cost the middle class Americans a fortune in health care, schooling, welfare, and incarceration.
Sorry i guess i should have put that stuff in the post but i've been really busy today.

Getlive is my homeboy, which means i can't whack him too hard.
Getlive are you some kind of idiot or what? when illegals are working for big corporations, or even small landscaping companies for that matter, they don't make as much money, they don't get health care benefits, these companies don't pay payroll or social security taxes. etc.

Now if you're ready to join the real world i will continue.

Lily i understand what you're saying as far as a compromise, but i don't think it's necessary right now. Lets see if we can't fill the jobs that need to be filled first.
The children are victims, but it's the enablers like yourself that make it worse. Sorry, but that's how i feel. maybe if these illegals thought their children would suffer they wouldn't come over in such numbers. Maybe, i don't know for sure, but neither do you.
Ben the govt is immoral, but two wrongs don't make a right.
I don't blame the illegals though as much as i blame the govt, and the corporations and other enablers like lily. If i was poor and starving in mexico, and i knew it was accepted or i wouldn't get into trouble, i would jump the fence too. It's like speeding, if i knew i wouldn't get a ticket, i would always do it.

getlive, we moved kelly this weekend, as we were packing up the truck i noticed she still has that painting that you did that was hanging in that restaurant at one time.
New house is nice, right on the pond, so definitely playing some ice hockey next winter. Oh and we hired some mexicans to move the piano, 50 bucks and lunch, it was a good deal.

GetLive-Walmart did this for ten years before they were fined! They use third party subcontractors and look the other way.

Nowadays many big places won't risk the penalties, but the low profile businesses do it now. Landscaping, movers, contractors, etc.If you live on Long Island, take a ride down route 110! Go to Huntington, toward Walt Whitman Mall, and you will see that early in the morning they get picked up. There are spots in Brentwood, etc. I don't know where you boys are. My ex boyfriend owned a company in nassau and he sent his goons out to pick the "least bitchy" workers to do pool and spa installations, and reataining walls. He did beautiful stone work around my father's pool- illegal labor. The homeowners know it, the employees know it. The homeowners got a better deal, the coworkers got a bonus, and the owner got to exploit illegal labor and he actually thought he was doing them the favor. He would pay them off for an injury-give them incentive cash for "behaving" in front of rich people.
Disgusting, really. I didn't know to be very concerned as I was underaged but this is the way it works. He owned two shitty houses and would have his best workers stay there- these guys think they are like father figures, doing "right" by their "boys". They circumvent the system.

People don't care, they just want their houses cleaned, gardens tended, and shrubs done. Nobody asks. People aren't horrified, its expected.

DONKEYHUE! How'd you do out there?

Rhino, did you make retaining walls around my pool?

Thankfully Benjamin is not ignoring me after I revealed yet another side of my sad nerdiness and complained about parking. Thing is, I suggested neither, I simply wanted to point out that people are accusing anyone who supports immigration reform as racists and I am just saying that there are social costs regradless and we can either deal with them or ignore them.

I might not give a damn about homelessness, for example, but I would be forced to give a damn about epidimiology and disease issues in transient populations like TB. Rhino thinks that anyone who tries to cope with reality is an enabler- but there are economic arguments that are not necessarily rooted in compassion for many social policy decisions. Classic example: Typhoid Mary.

The only way to stop it is to really enforce it as a crime for employers. No fence will stop it, is all I am saying, and ignoring their children in schools and ER's will not make them go away. Call that enabling, but it can be necessary.

People come because they know Americans do not turn their backs, other countries do. Its a question of what kind of society we want to be. I think you are a "tough love" crowd.
