Same as Family

“Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right; but our country right or wrong.”

Commodore Stephen Decatur

That statement pretty much sums it up for me.

You didn't hear? we decided to see other people, but i'm ok with it. Really, i didn't get dumped it was mutual.

yes ben i understand what you mean, but the problem i have is with those who root against their own country. like for example, on the two-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack, in which the NY Times endorsed the principle of moral equivalence between the United States and the 9-11 terrorists. they explained that the terrorists may have slaughtered thousands of Americans in a bloody attack on U.S. soil – but the U.S. has had imperialistic depredations of its own!
Not surprising coming from Pravda on the Hudson, but disgusting all the same. Unfortunatley that kind of anti American sentiment is all to common from some of our fellow citizens.

Do you want to turn a blind eye to the truth?

Rhino-itall said...

No blind eye warlike, but if you got into a scrape right or wrong, i'm with you, it's family. I might be pissed afterwards when we're sittin in central booking, but i'm never rootin against you, and nothings stopping me from steppin up.
That's all i'm talking about, right or wrong, it's family!

You may agree or not with whatever the situation, whether it's vietnam, or Iraq, or Korea, or afghanistan, but you gotta root for the family to win no matter what!

Later on you can be pissed, and you can vote out the people who did what you didn't agree with, but you gotta root for the family to win!

Hmmm-that was deep!!
I have no further comment.

After the fact does not bring back dead people though does it? I have to say as usual I'm with this Benjamin at CBGB's.

Glas to see warlike is back.

No DB, after the fact doesn't bring anyone back. What's your point?
You don't think we're in Iraq or Afghanistan for the right reasons? That's ok, but does that mean you don't root for us to win?

When pinch sulzberger (ny times editor) infamously said in the 1970's that he would rather a vietnamese soldier kill an American than the other way around, his own father said his statements were treasonous, but now we hear anti American statements all the time from the times and others and it doesn't even raise an eyebrow. I believe JFK's war in vietnam was less popular than Iraq, but no one is accusing pinch of treason this time around.

You think we would be better off with Kerry in office? the man who testified to atrocities in vietnam that didn't happen would be better?

You think it's ok when we have a congressman like murtha saying we can't win this war?

I don't think it's ok. I think it's treason!

So..stick your head in the sand and let the Shrub bankrupt us, put us into a war that could last another 10 years and say..way to go George, I am with ya brother..

I think not.

Just because he is the President doesn't make him intelligent, wise or a good leader.

I bought into his bs when he started the whole thing. I attempted to rationalize my feelings and fears as just an old anti-war hag that feared any type of war. I wanted to beleive him, I wanted to support him. I really tried. I have grown more centrist in my older years and I was glad of that fact. when he announced the war was over..I rejoiced.

Then the shit hit the fan and hundreds of our soldiers started dying and were maimed for life. It got worse not better.

The Shrub had no plan for afterward. Neither did Rummy or any of the others inciting this war.It wasn't over..it had just begun.

Lemmings follow their leader..and its not a good ending for them. I refuse to be a lemming.

Rhino-itall said...

Dusy, the point is not to follow blindly, the point is to root for the home team.
I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion, i'm not even saying you shouldn't protest. that's not something that i would do, especially with my countrymen dying in the desert, but as disgusting as i might think it is, you have that right.

The point is, you should be rooting for us to win. That's all. In war, you should be rooting for your countrymen to prevail, whether or not you agree with why they're there That's all. I know of course you want to just quit right now, but since we know that won't happen, wouldn't you rather we win than lose this war?

Its Dusty..not Dusy..

And just wtf does our countrymen dying in a desert have to do with my country right or wrong? Isn't there a point where you draw the line and say enough is enough? They did it in Vietnam..how soon we forget.

Rhino-itall said...

It has everything to do with my country right or wrong. Vietnam is a prime example, but we look at it from different angles. I think leaving was a disgrace! The worst thing Nixon ever did wasn't some bullshit hotel break in, it was quitting on our allies in vietnam! He caved in to the hippies and the news media, and when the poll numbers kept dropping he wimped out. I haven't forgotten!
More importantly, if the hippies had the attitude of my country right or wrong, we wouldn't have had john kerry telling lies to congress about atrocities that never happened, we wouldn't have had a hanoi jane, and we wouldn't have had a bunch of pussies at peace rallies spitting on our soldiers!
Whatever your thoughts on why we're there, or how we got there, or how much you hate your president, you should be rooting for your country to win.
