Perspective

Lets look at this deal for a sale of a private shipping company to Dubai World Ports. At first, i was totally against it, i once again listened to the news reports, i heard the politicians, and then i saw Jimmy Carter was in favor of it. I couldn't understand why the president would threaten to veto any legislation to stop it?
This morning i got some perspective in the Wall Street Journal editorial pages. Now i'm not saying i'm in favor of this deal, i'm saying that we should have some perspective. Especially when you have Hillary Clinton and Bill Frist on the same side of the fence.
The argument of the WSJ is that nothing has changed security wise. The port security will still be handled by the Coast Guard and U.S. Customs, however what they don't mention is that we will have to give our exact security procedures to this company, and this company is owned by the government of Dubai.
Ultimately i think the president will have to back off on his veto threat and i think that's a good thing, but i'm not ready to just condemn him, or the treasury department without learning more.
One more question, just for perspective. Why is it that if we spend too much time looking at Arab men at the airport, hillary and friends say that's racial profiling, it's bigotry, etc. But now they don't want to let this Arab company do business here strictly because they're Arab?
You do the math.......

Kids, they are about to have a coronation for Georgy boy, the Surpreme Court is about to abolish abortion, and we are about to sell the security of our ports to people who wish us destruction - DO SOMETHING!!

The supreme court will not abolish abortion, but i can't see why anyone would be in favor of partial birth abortion. that topic is another post altogether.
Again, the security of our ports is still in our hands, of course we have no security anyway. but again that's another post.

You just can't allow Arabs to run our ports. Any muslim employee there can decide to be a part of the "jihad" at any time.

The flak isnt that they are Arab, the problem lies with the fact that the UAE, Dubai in particular is a known financier of terrorist organisations. They woouldnt be allowed to exist otherwise, very little of that region resembles the Muslim world that we know. There is alcohol, nightclubs, gambling, waterparks etc. The reason they skate scott free is that they provide a service to the bad guys.

The bottom line is that it is not in our best interest. This was something unbeknownst to me, and the fact is I dont approve of any nation controlling such an integral part of our country whether it be British or Arab. One of Reagan's main issues that he ran on was the Panana Canal. As he said "We built it, we paid for it, it ours" Well thanks to Bubba its now the China man's.

Line one of the Patriot Act should read: No foreign nation should have any sovereignty on ANY aspect of our nation.

Donkey said it best I think...still not sure how we get out of this mess though...Unfortunately it may be too late as this is a sale between two nations other than us. What can be done now? Is it too late to stop the sale and if so then who will buy these rights?

And so we can put THIS into perspective. You were against the sale yesterday, but after being enlightened by the WSJ you have switched stances. Nice flip flop
Munson!

i didn't say i was in favor of it, you should read the post. I said lets look at both sides.

Nicely said Jawn Kherry. So you were against it before you were for it before you were against it? Huh.

Well said Ben. Me? I wouldve just called her an opinion poll whore.

Thank you ben, and for the record, i was against it before i was undecided, and will probably be for it eventually if it looks popular......or if ann coulter says it's a good idea. otherwise i will be against it again.

i was talking to myself and came up with an interesting point: What about the NYand NJ Port Authority??

Jurisdiction??

Congratulation Footprint!!! We had faith in you, but didnt think you actually had it in you to make a point. Whats that? The judges have ruled his comment wasnt an actual point. Never mind!

The Port Authority owns the ports but that isn't what Dubai is buying. They are buying the rights to run the ports...sort of a management company. Plus this is all the ports in the East, not just NY & NJ but Baltimore, Philthy, New Orleans...

if they own the ports how can the Port Authority let the government select who runs them??

Is this where the Department of Gnomeland Infurity comes in??

Mookie McFly said...

Pretty much...they are too busy collecting toenails and such to run a port or some such thing.
