The Iraqi elections have been an overwhelming success. The turnout was more than 70% of eligible voters including an incredible number of Sunni's. As we know, the terrorists have been able to operate in Iraq mainly with the help of the Sunni's, so this should really go a long way towards driving a wedge between them and the Sunni's. The violence was almost non existant. The Iraqi police handled almost all of the security at the polls.
There is no other way to look at this, it has been a incredible success.
So congratulations first to President Bush who has done a great job and stuck with his vision in the face of overwhelming criticism. Same thing to Donald Rumsfeld.
Congratulations to the men and women in uniform who have continued to do a wonderful job in spite of howard dean saying they can't win, and finally congratulations to the Iraqi people who have embraced the democratic process so far and are well on their way to becoming a free country and an ally in the war on terror.
The job is not done, our work there is not finished by any means. However there is no denying that this is a huge step in the right direction.

BTW Donald Rumsfeld is a warmonger. And gets no B ups on a TGIF.
You guys are weird and if I wasn't at half strength I'b bitch smack you...by the way I have this lovely golf umbrella if you can tell me where the majority of your common stock investments fell during the last six months.
And Iraw can play baseball as long as Castro & the Cuban people doesn't make a penny off of it...Rhino wants the Cuban people to starve so he can blame Castro for it.
all hail donny rumsfeld. and i don't want the cuban people to starve, i want them to overthrow their government so i can vacation there without going through canada.
I disagree rhino. Ive been to Cuba, probaly the best vacation Ive taken, and I dont think it'll be the same when its packed with Holiday Inn's, Starbuck's, and Mickey D's. Theres something to be said for that old world communist charm.
Plus, you're Pina Colada's were probably a lot cheaper & they don't charge you extra for the little umbrella.
Why are you calling me a Pina Colada?, Mr Jesuit Education
True that...Sorry, it was Freudian slip more than a grammatical error. Next I will call the taste of champagne as you were most certainly at one point taking a long walk on the beach and got caught in the rain...and you most certainly have half a brain.
And when in Cuba we drinks Mojitos not Pinas SON!!
Viva La Cuba Libre
Yes a higher % of Iraqis voted then you see in most/all American elections.
Does this mean that America is not ready for democrecy?
No sac, it doesn't mean we arent' ready for democracy, it means we take it for granted. It's a shame really.
