The Trial of the Century? Decade? Year? Month?
Well, if you didn't know it Saddam's trial has begun again today. This is of little consequence to me as an individual but to Iraqi's it is in fact probably the most important trial of their life. Some of his wacky Sunni Arab leftover Baath party supporters are still running around blowing things up and causing general mayhem and they think he should be set free. While Al Sadr supporters from the Shiite muslim community are running around blowing things up and causing general mayhem and they think Saddam should have been put to death months ago...Well at least these sides are getting close together on the issues at hand and you can see Democracy playing it's part in this evolution. Pretty much everyone involved on either side of this trial has been handed a death threat so obviously there is no way they can be impartial about the hearings. And the fact that it has been 5 months since the last hearings leads me to beleive that a speedy trial isn't in the coming. But while Saddam's fate twists in the wind, Iraqis can take solace in the fact that the American justice system reacts a similar way to a big trial w/media involvement, big name attorneys, lots of hypothesizing about the outcome on every major network and in every major paper...They are being shown the in's & out's of our justice system. Let freedom ring....

Good thing the trial isnt in the Peoples Republic of California.
did you notice that ramsey clark is now part of his legal team? not surprising really, because this man has always been a traitor to his country, but disgusting none the less.
Lucky for the Shiites & unfortunately for our soldiers that it isn't in Cali because he'd probably get off...talk about riots? They want to move the trial but it's not going to happen. I didn't hear that about Clark but hopefully the sagacious legal wisdom added by such a reputable attorney will lead to a quick conclusion...at the end of a rope w/a noose. Marcia Clark couldn't get this guy off the hook.
Matt Drudge had some interesting thoughts on the AM on Sunday night. He proposed: What if the judge rules that Saddam is Not Guilty.
With guys getting killed who are involved with the trial, that's really not out of the question.
Plus don't the baddies have something like 40 million dollars in American cash lying around to bribe people with?
That scenario could bring all kinds of political repercussions at home for the President.
Yeah, that is scary and that would bring the importance of the trial to us pretty quickly. Hopefully though, the judge being a Kurd would make him a little less easy to sway w/bribes and threats. But you just never know. I mean even if he is found guilty, you know half the world will think the fact that we are an occupying nation has something to do with it...You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Thats why we should have just killed him immediately. no reason to keep him alive, he's just trouble.
Agreed...in fact, why not just kill him now. He could slip on a bar of soap in the shower, hit his head and die on the way to the hospital...when some jihad-ing fundamentalist crashes his car strapped to the the gills with explosives into his ambulance. Ooops...
I dont necessarily think that would be such bad thing if Sexy Saddie was found not guilty, hinging on the fact he would again regain power. At that point another Iraq-Iran war would be inevitable, handling much of our lightwork. His arrogance at "beating" the American Devils (unlike the NJ Devils) would only embolden his search to acquire nuclear WMD's, thereby leading to Israeli intervention. If the Bush Cheney neo-con contingent are looking for a viable exit strategy, excluding the tragic loss of life of our brave American soldiers, the humongous political egg on face, and loss of both the White House and Congress in the next elections, a not guilty verdict would be a masterstroke of Rove-ian proportions for liberal conspiracy theorists.
Slip on a bar of soap? They use soap in Iraq?
yeah, jim has a point, i don't think they shower over there. who's going to believe it? i think we should just come out and say "hey, we run the show here, and we dedided he's guilty" sends a good message to the iranians too.
What could the UN do? Take our blogs away?
BTW, Kenny Loggins didn't make it.
Blondie but no THE CARS, FU R&RHOF!
Hat tip ~jim.
not enough room for me to respond.
post to follow this evening.
Ah, a hopeful R&R death to Kenny Log-out!
(If Fly sings that song on here everytime Loggins is mentioned, I'm gonna scream!)
Somewhere Jim Messina is sipping champagne with Don Shula
How about if I sing this?
"You were the first to be the last, wherever you go I go with you...I will beeeee the flame"
Cheap Trick is in right!?!
Come on, Kenny belongs...He'd open the door for more movie soundtrack musicians. Think about the possibilities. I mean Randy frickin' Newman certainly belongs! the Cars do belong but not because of their music...I just like that fly from the video. (jk the Cars Rock!)
As for that Al Ja-Zo-Scary blog, I hate to say this but I spent way too much time there...Perhaps we have the wrong format here. We should be pro fundamentalist and then we'd get some serious hits on our site. They are some scary people on that site.
Think about how much fun we could have if you/I/someone had a Zappa blog or a music blog....
volunteers? I'll help if ya want...
Music is the best. Count me out (in)
We'll have to think on that. Sure would less-muddy your comments :)
Let me see what I can come up with it?
Ideas? Mail em to me.
