Windfall Profits?

Let me tell you what it is in case you haven't heard of it. Byron Dorgan (D) North Dakota has proposed a tax on "excess profits" being made by the oil and other energy companies in this country. What??????? I don't know where to start! Is this really a proposal? When will Atlas Shrug?

I can see it now...some activist judge will declare the right to drive an automobile with access to cheap fuel is guaranteed in the Constitution.

Not just any automobile mind you but a gas guzzling SUV...

Just a question, why would any one person be given the right to cap a price on anything? Isn't that intrinsicly un-American? Congress and these particular senators will do whatever it takes to look like they are siding with their voters but what is their real agenda?

The free market is in place here, they are not in collusion. maybe opec is in collusion but that's just how it goes. the truth is we did this to ourselves by letting the enviro whackos tell us where we can drill, and how many refineries we can have etc. there is no way we should tell the oil companies how much to charge, they are getting the maximum that they can get, and that is as it should be. I don't believe there is collusion.
