The disaster in New Orleans is not natural it is man-made. The man-made disaster is the welfare state. When facing adversity I like to believe that Americans rise(I don't mean flood waters) to the occasion and solve their own problems, we don't wait for the Government to take care of us. The problem is that 75% of the residents of New Orleans had already evacuated before the hurricane. CNN and Fox indicated that of the 300,000 or so who remained, a large number were from the city's public housing projects and that the city had no plan for evacuating all of the prisoners in the city's jails--so they just let many of them loose. Is there an overlap between these two populations? As Robert Tracinski writes, "The innocent people trapped in New Orleans were trapped alongside large numbers of people from two groups: criminals--and wards of the welfare state, people selected, over decades, for their lack of initiative and self-induced helplessness. The welfare wards were a mass of sheep--on whom the incompetent administration of New Orleans unleashed a pack of wolves." Katrina exposed the psychological consequences of the welfare state. People with values respond to a disaster by doing whatever it takes to overcome the difficulties they face. They don't wait for the government to take care of them. They don't prey on their fellow men. Criminals and welfare parasites have made a way of life by living off of stolen wealth. "The welfare state--and the brutish, uncivilized mentality it sustains and encourages--is the man-made disaster that explains the moral ugliness evident in New Orleans." But what is to be expected from a culture that values Jambalaya over jesus and Gumbo over god!

You forgot to mention Ta Ta's over...over...well who can blame them for that one! Who doesn't like a pair sunny side up over just about anything under the sun!
Besides, who said God doesn't like a little gumbo and jambalaya from time to time...I've even heard he likes to get down w/a little Louisiana Lightning and some crawfish in his spare time...Yeah, that's right, I said said it. God likey him some crawfish...I bet he's got napkins up in heaven too because I heard he likes to eat them with his bare hands! And while this may be blasphemous I harken back to my previous point...Whose to say that God doesn't like ta ta's as well. He created them for God's (His own)sake! For that matter, he created beads too and look at the things they allow us to see! Actually this is how I rationalize all of my sinning but feel free to borrow any of it you need...whatever gets us through the day!
You might be off base on your last point. You have to remember that Mardi Gras is a religious festival afterall, and the majority of revelers probaly pray more often than the average American...as in "Dear God please make my head stop hurting" , "Dear God make this room stop spinning" and "Dear God I promise I will never drink again if you make the bad stuff coming out of my belly stop"
You have merely reinforced my point...besides haven't you heard the last lost beatitude (not to be confused w/beat it dude or be at tit dude)...Blessed are the drink takers for all beer goggled oggled women will be yours...You never know. I am definitely going to hell.
You're facts are incorrect according to my research. from what i understand, there was a plan to evacuate the people, the mayor had the power to use the school buses, and public buses, but he didn't. Also, the governer could have declared martial law, and could have ordered the police and or national guard to forcefully remove anyone who didn't want to stay. I hear the mayor is forcing people to leave now, i say its about a week late. The other problem is the corrupt police force who dissapeared in the tragedy and are now being rewarded with a paid vacation. Corruption is rampant in government in general, but Louisiana takes it to another level.
Walk? not realistic. It's not like they needed to go from the east side to madison square garden, It's more like they needed to go from the west side to suffolk county, and that might not even be far enough. Also, some of these people couldn't walk, they just found a few dead in a retirement home. First and most important job of government is to protect the citizens, i understand where you're coming from, but from the looks of your picture, you are probably healthy and wealthy enough to have evacuated yourself, some of these people probably could have done the same, but some of them couldn't, and those are the ones who should have been on the buses. women and children first of course.
From the looks of your picture, you are the most intelligent Rhino in the world...Where were you when Katrina happened because you could have probably carried some people out on your back!
