Since you're right there anyway, why not just clean it up? I don't want to over simplify this but it seems to me that the money they're using to study the effect of the garbage could be better spent to pick it up.
Pacific Ocean garbage patch worries researchers
This doesn't scare everyone? I would think the people who protested wildly over the Patriot Act would be extremely nervous about the president having control over the internet.
Bill would give president emergency control of Internet
TSK...TSK.... Charlie Rangel doesn't pay his taxes...Well he's perfect for a cabinet position in the Obama administration anyway
OOPS! CHARLIE FORGOT THIS $1M HOUSE

Ummmm....You are aware that Castro is a cruel dictator and mass murderer who hasn't had a free election in his country for over 40 years and jails or kills his political enemies right?
Well just call me a racist but...oh you already did call me a racist? Well then..

Liberal Facts
I just saw a clip of Howard Dean at a town hall meeting yesterday and said "...the system in Britain was actually put in by one of the most conservative Prime Minister's in Britain's history, Winston Churchill."
The UK national health service started in 1948 when Clement Attlee was the PM. This is textbook liberalism by altering the facts to send their message. At least Dean isn't a Czar.

The Truth About The French System
I've heard many people talking about the French healthcare system and how it is superior to ours. I don't understand how anyone can say this when I've read so many stories and even done posts on the exodus of wealthy people from France due to the prohibitive tax rates.
The fact is the French system couldn't survive in it's current form without being subsidized by the American tax payer.
French national health insurance is also subsidized by American patients. This is because France decides which drugs to use and at what prices; American pharmaceutical companies must either accept the dictated prices or lose an enormous market. The companies therefore sell their medicines at higher prices in the U.S. in order to cover their expenses and turn a profit; the surplus is then sold cheaply to the French, who take the same pills as Americans but at half the price or less.

What's Your Problem?
Is it health insurance? Well if you don't have health insurance you're not alone. You're 1 of about 10 million people in this country who have slipped through the cracks according to the census bureau. Not 47 million but 8-13 million. Thanks to Hot Air for doing the homework again.
The position of The Aurora for some time now has been that we (U.S.) don't have a serious healthcare problem and for those who don't have insurance the free market can handle it if the government would get out of the way.
These census bureau stats confirm the first part of that statement and common sense confirms the second.

They've Gone Plaid
For anyone who has seen the movie "Spaceballs" (I have like 10 times), you know what the title means. Africa has seriously gone Plaid.

It Happened to Daschle....
And it would be great to see it happen to Reid.
Of course there's still a lot of time between now and the 2010 elections but with record unemployment in Las Vegas (13%) and his dedication to all of Obama's unpopular policies this could get good.

Petrobas Brazil
Obama just gave a boat load of money to Brazil to help their government run oil company Petrobas, explore offshore drilling in their country. Now why would Obama do that? Because George Soros bought a ton of of stock in Petrobas months ago. In fact, Petrobas is the number one asset in Soros' hedge fund. Good old fashioned political paybacks. Let me call my broker...

GETLIVE
I guess I should have done this post yesterday but you know that would have made too much sense.
Donkey and I have asked Getlive to be a contributor here at The Aurora and he has accepted. He's a perfect fit for us here. He's smart, conservative, and has a thick skin. (and skull)
Plus he's an old friend and a loyal reader and commenter. With any luck we'll get Pnutz back too!
Welcome aboard Getlive.

Canada Wants American Healthcare System????
"the Canadian system could be restructured to focus on patients if hospitals and other health-care institutions received funding based on the patients they treat, instead of an annual, lump-sum budget."
Wait a minute, restructured to focus on the patients? Now that is just CRAZY!

Nobody digs the plan.
You know what they say, "It's lonely, at the top". Our top leader is starting to feel a bit lonely in his socialistic views on health care in this country. Will he get what he wants or give what the people want? Listen to the people..

You Down With OPM?
"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
—Margaret Thatcher
With a projected $1.8 trillion deficit for 2009, several trillions more in deficits projected over the next decade, and with both Medicare and Social Security entitlement spending about to ratchet up several notches over the next 15 years as Baby Boomers become eligible for both, we are rapidly running out of other people's money. These deficits are simply not sustainable. They are either going to result in unprecedented new taxes and inflation, or they will bankrupt us.

I Love the 80's
About a decade ago(or more) Donkey and I were talking about the government intrusion into Microsoft and thought it was crazy. We were discussing how events around that time made us think of Atlas Shrugged. If we had created The Aurora back then I would have written a post on it.
Last week Donkey re-read George Orwell's 1984. He's been reminding me about the book and lamenting the similarities to what's going on right now in America. I told him to do a post on it.
He didn't and now he seems to be taking a hiatus?
I really wanted him to write that post.....I mean I can't write it....What the hell are we going to do? Will we survive?
Hmmm..... I think we'll be ok..
Our Road to Oceania
Orwell was on to something.

The Clock Has Struck Thirteen
The bigger picture that is often lost in our posts, is that although we will take issue with specific subject matters, the overall common theme of our gripe is the disparity in which said subjects are covered in the media.
Issues can and should be debated, and obviously we are of the mind that the conservative argument will always win if based solely on facts. Liberalism and socialism have failed in every instance they've been enacted. Every instance. Conservatism and capitalism may not be perfect but they're sure the hell batting better than .000%. We think that considering this, the debate is a layup. Then again, that's probably what the Sacramento Kings thought before they heard Donaghy's whistle start blowing like the midnight train to Georgia.
Point is, for all you non-sports fans out there is that the refs are on the payroll and not only actively trying to fix the game, but are calling technicals on the fans in the stands, and that should scare the living shit out of anyone who believes in truth, justice, and the American way.
Take for one instance just one little issue like, I dont know....war.
One would think that that'd be a pretty big one, insomuch that how you feel about war today would not change drastically tomorrow. You'd be wrong. Long gone are the weekly marches and nightly death count graphics back dropping quagmiretastic carnage and bloodshed on the evening news. Every damn night? On the telly phone? It would seem that in bizarro Obama world, war is no longer bad. We have always been at war with Eastasia.
Terms like Big Brother and Orwellian are thrown around as cheaply as hopenchange but like so many empty catch phrases the truth or should I say Minitrue is so much scarier than the spin.
The Thought Police are amongst us and they belong to the Democrat Party. Just like the fake outrage over the war has now ceased, so too have the concerns for individual privacy and liberty. Eavesdropping is now good, hell spying on your neighbor is encouraged. The list could go on and on. Name a gripe of the left the past eight years, they now are in favor it.
Every single argument I have made here has now been vindicated. Liberalism is an ideology of contrarian hate. But none of this frightens me, I predicted it and called it on this blog years ago. Lets see how quickly the Dems change their tune on the nuclear option after recess, cant say I see the Gang of 14 going on a reunion tour any time soon.
What frightens me is the media.
The media are no longer content with just being biased, they are now aggressively attacking the citizenry of this Country. Joe the Plumber asked one question and they were running background checks on him and smear campaigns within the day. A dozen people ask a dozen questions, and they are the mob. An angry brown shirted racist mob. (The lib hypocrisy works both ways - what they once supported they now oppose: see community organization) Strictly on the basis that these people dont think the same way that the media wants them to.
The media have crossed the line. The hypocrisy is no longer cute. It is criminal, amoral, and un-American. I would sooner have alqaeda live in my building than the lowliest of pages at NBC News.
The only consolation is that, if ratings and poll numbers are any indication, this will be perhaps the greatest backfire in the history of American politics, and the savior of this great nation from the evils of liberal and socialist hate.
That being said...
Ive had enough. I'm not going home, but Im taking my ball. This will be my last post and my last comment. Ive blogged at The Aurora now for just over fours years and its been a good run, but the time has come. I leave you in good hands. Kick 'em in the grill Rhino.

SOLIPSISTIC
I had to look it up...
"But who would have thought that the sober, deliberative Barack Obama would have nothing to propose but vague and slippery promises -- or that he would so easily cede the leadership clout of the executive branch to a chaotic, rapacious, solipsistic Congress? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom I used to admire for her smooth aplomb under pressure, has clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants about legitimate town-hall protests by American citizens. She is doing grievous damage to the party and should immediately step down."
PAGLIA.......

We, the undersigned, believe that a continued focus on, and promotion of, capitalism and a free market economy is the best road to the recovery of the United States’ current economic hardships. Our government should seek to reward entrepreneurs, job-creators, and those that foster prosperity in our country, as their success will help to stimulate the return of a stronger American economy. Americans should be encouraged to make sound investments, and profit should be celebrated. Tax cuts should be given to working Americans who pay their federal income taxes.
We do not believe that the government should be running the banks, the auto industry, the finance industry, nor should they be in the health care business, placing unprecedented limitations, or rationing, on our needed care.

I'M SHOCKED
To get the economy back on track, will President Barack Obama have to break his pledge not to raise taxes on 95 percent of Americans? In a “This Week” exclusive, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner told me, "We’re going to have to do what’s necessary.”
Geithner was clear that he believes a key component of economic recovery is deficit reduction. When I gave him several opportunities to rule out a middle class tax hike, he wouldn’t do it.
I"m actually not even a tiny bit surprised. And if you are then you're even dumber than I thought. Mr. Sumners warning has been around for a long time. It still holds true today. Healthcare for all? Tarp? Cap and Trade? Tax the rich right? Yeah ok...
The Forgotten Man is never a pauper. He almost always has a little capital because it belongs to the character of the man to save something. He never has more than a little. He is, therefore, poor in the popular sense, although in the correct sense he is not so. I have said already that if you learn to look for the Forgotten Man and to care for him, you will be very skeptical toward all philanthropic and humanitarian schemes. It is clear now that the interest of the Forgotten Man and the interest of "the poor," "the weak," and the other petted classes are in antagonism, In fact, the warning to you to look for the Forgotten Man comes the minute that the orator or writer begins to talk about the poor man. That minute the Forgotten Man is in danger of a new assault, and if you intend to meddle in the matter at all, then is the minute for you to look about for him and to give him your aid. Hence, if you care for the Forgotten Man, you will be sure to be charged with not caring for the poor. Whatever you do for any of the petted classes wastes capital. If you do anything for the Forgotten Man, you must secure him his earnings and savings, that is, you legislate for the security of capital and for its free employment; you must oppose paper money, wildcat banking and usury laws and you must maintain the inviolability of contracts. Hence you must be prepared to be told that you favor the capitalist class, the enemy of the poor man.

TRUE....TRUE.....
"The point is ladies and gentlemen that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms - greed for life, for money, knowledge - has marked the upward surge of mankind..."
