Alot of book recos being thrown around here lately. I have one Id like to add. The name of the book is The Death of Conservatism written by the New York Times very own Sam Tanenhaus. It would make a great book to keep in your bathroom to wipe your ass.

Have you read it?
not smart enough to figure this out? with huge wins in Virginia and especially NJ last night you can't figure out how ridiculous this book is?
Sure it looked good for the libs for about 6 months but now even the NY Times is doing stories on buyers remorse. in particular they just did a story on the voters in Iowa.
sad that it has to be spelled out for you.
it's all part of the ebb and flow of politics. it can all change in the blink of an eye.
and what about your honey, sarah palin? she did a great job hoofing it upstate!!! an easy republican win turned into a very surprising democratic win.
i guess that's why she gets million dollar book deals and $100K speaking fees. she's so, what? effective !!!
ha hahaha
I haven't read the book and you didn't answer my question so I don't know if you did. I do think it is probably premature to announce the death of conservatism, unless one means that it will be followed by a rebirth in a changed form.
Obviously "conservatism" in some form, is still alive, in fact the moderates are being driven out in favor of more virulent forms. However, this is not inconsistent with my conclusion that today's conservatism is becoming smaller, meaner, and crazier. There were nutjobs in the sixties, as in the John Birch Society and the Liberty Lobby, but they seem to be taking control of today's Republican Party and of the conservative media (Fox, talk shows.)
Anita, your comment is why I have zero respect for liberals. You are hateful, a hypocrite, and intellectually dishonest.
Hoffman went from 0% to 45% in the polls in less than eight weeks. Despite what MSNBC says, we Conservatives look at is a positive. I don't believe in moral victories and of course would have preferred a win but we tossed the liberal out of the race and sent a message to the GOP. We will only get stronger going forward. Owens will hold that seat for one year mark my words.
Palin posted a Facebook endorsement and its all her fault, and that is the sentiment echoed in the liberal media. Yet Obama actually did "hoof" it to Jersey five times, actively campaigned and Corzine lost. In Jersey. That's huge and you know it. The WH denies (lies) it but they campaigned for Deeds too before distancing themselves when polling hit double digits.
I understand you are bitter. You had hoped for change and you were fooled, lied to and bamboozled. You feel stupid. Obama has betrayed or failed you on almost every single issue that matters to you, so you strike out at Palin. How very original and cutting edge of you.
Come back again when you formulate some original thought and are able to refrain from regurgitating your talking points from a SNL skit.
Conservatism is once again on the rise and you should be angry and afraid. Obama was your chance and he has proven to be as impotent as a eunuch and yet you still feel like you got fucked. You have, and yet you feel so unsatisfied. Ha ha.
Conservatism is on the rise donk?
Don't call it a comeback...it never left. Only the politicians thought it was gone.
and i know i'm preaching to the choir here but the proof that conservatism never left is right in front of our eyes every day.
republicans lost congress when they betrayed conservative principles
democrats all over the country running on traditional conservative positions calling themselves "blue dogs"
the RINO candidate McCain who everyone claimed was the perfect compromise and "big tent" guy loses to a community organizer.
Why did all this happen? Because conservatives vote on principles.
Washington woke up this morning and realized the truth. Obama is a one term wonder and the pelosi reid leadership is done. 2010 is the reckoning.
I thought the Bill Owens win was most interesting. This was a safe Republican seat and now a Democrat for the first time since 1885. Thank you Mr. Hoffman.
By the way, although the Republican Party is getting crazier, I do not think they are crazy enough to nominate Palin.
Getting crazier? More people identify themselves as conservative than liberal. Independents flocking to the GOP. Just because you say it doesn't make it so. In a shitstorm of a race where thousands voted for a withdrawn candidate, the Tea Party sent a message we will not tolerate liberals in our party, and that's what Dede was, not a moderate but an exteme liberal. Principle won the day if not our candidate.
And correct me if I'm wrong but Hoffmans 45% is more than Bill Clinton got in 92.
Please drive all the moderates and "liberals" out of your party. Please nominate Sarah Palin in 2012.
i just love it when YOU tell ME how I FEEL and THINK.
anyone who disagrees with you is bitter, angry, disappointed, shamed, and who knows what else. i've actually been, on this very site, quite critical of obama. but your own capacity for critical thinking is so diminished by your hatreds that you've lost the ability to distinguish gradations of thought.
it's pure US versus THEM. for you, there is nothing in between.
you are a smart guy, but why do you write such stupid things? why have you allowed yourself to fall lock-step with the viscious mold that is seeping into all the nooks and crannies of YOUR party? a party once proud, but now diminished to, yes, the likes of the sarah palin's of the world.
it's really sad.
Take a deep breath. Reread your original juvenile schoolyard taunting comment on Palin. Ha haha? Really Anita. Take another deep breath.
Donkey, in a battle of wits with Anita you are hopelessly mismatched.
Whatever happens in 2010, the Republican Party is in trouble. They are losing the young. They have gone from being the party of Lincoln to the party of Palin. I'm not going to pick on Palin unduly as her political future is over but if you think she will ever be President you should stop huffing paint.
Rhino, I really hope you are enjoying this absolute liberal panic as thoroughly as I am.
I heard Olbermann walked out of the studio last night before his Live Election Night coverage was about to start at 10pm the fucking crybaby pussy. I love it. His show may be the funniest of the year tonight, and I imagine will be alot of Palin bashing like these two idjits are doing now to mask their fear. Be afraid, be very afraid!
i am enjoying it a great deal donk.
however i truly don't understand the hatred towards Palin? I just don't get it.
She's a rock star so i understand maybe they fear her fund raising ability?
She's pretty and successful so maybe they're jealous?
She's a conservative but i don't see the same vitriol for conservative men so i just don't understand it. Is it because she's pro-life? Is it because she represents everything that women like anita and gary wish they were? (not saying that's the case anita just throwing out scenarios) However kind of reminds me of your hate for Jane..hmmmm.....
I honestly don't get it. Why the hate?
What is it that Sarah Palin represents that causes so much hate in people like anita and gary and olbermann?
Why the hate for Palin? I don't hate Palin, really, but I do have a low opinion of her. It's not because she's attractive. It's not because she's conservative. It's not because I'm afraid she's going to be President. I just do not think she is remotely qualified for anything except to give speeches to wingnuts for money, and good luck to her in her new career.
"I just do not think she is remotely qualified for anything except to give speeches to wingnuts for money"
Isnt that exactly why you voted for Obama? He had ZERO other qualifications, but sure could give a good pep talk.
This Palin obsession reminds me of the scene in The Fountainhead when Twooey asks Roark to tell him exactly what he thinks of him now that he has destroyed (allegedly) him, to which Roark replies.... "but I dont think of you"
If you and the rest of the left truly had such a low opinion of Palin you would show an ambivalent indifference to her, and not make her the focus of your entire ideology (just as you did with your hatred of Bush) For fucks sake Axelrod watches the dems lose VA and NJ but gloats that they beat Palin in NY. Sad. Very sad.
...btw Palin endorsed Christie and McDonnell too.
Jesus, I have the exact opposite of a Palin obsession, I didn't bring her up, she's over.
