Baseball Bet

Yankee's vs Angels just started.. I'm in NY ....Gary's in LA

Want to make a wager?

I'm thinking the Bronx Bombers win and Gary has to read the book of my choice and give me a book report (just a comment really) and if the Angels win I'll read the book of Gary's choice and give a report.

(reasonable # of pages of course)

You in Gary?

Sure, why not. I have no idea who is favored, not following sports, but GO ANGELS. Actually I'm in San Jose, not LA.

OK, I could weasel out of this bet on the grounds that the Angels lost before I answered your post, but since I didnt' know that, what's the book?

O.K. gary you're clearly not a sports fan.

It's a seven game series. As of now the Yanks are up 1-0.

I have no idea what book and i'm not counting my chickens because the Angels have a winning record over the Yankees this year.

Good Luck

Cool, I'm still in the game. While we await the outcome why don't we discuss possible books. I might even consider reading some of your suggestions. Also what do you consider a reasonable number of pages? I would say under 700 pages or so.

well most of ann coulter's books are less than 500 pages so.....

I've read one of her books. Treason. One-sided, riddled with factual and historical errors, mean-spirited, wrong in her basic conclusions.

cool i won't make you read that one again...

actually i was just kidding anyway.

If I win it will be something you can learn from without hating the author.

Rush Limbaugh wrote a couple of books so there's an idea....

I've been considering some possibilities if I win:

A Conspiracy So Immense: The World of Joseph McCarthy by David Oshinsky- to undo the damage done if you read Coulter's Treason, just over 500 pages

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution by Richard Dawkins - I haven't read it yet myself, but you would certainly learn something from an expert in the field

The Conservative Soul by Andrew Sullivan - proves that not all conservatives are idiots

Invasion of the Party Snatchers by Vic Gold - a devastating critique of Bush and the neoconservatives by an old Goldwater conservative

Ronald Reagan: Fate, Freedom and the Making of History by John Patrick Diggins - that's if I'm in a good mood - a generally favorable although not altogether uncritical view of Reagan's presidency

Galileo's Daughter by Dana Sobel - just a great book, everyone should read it, shows what happens when science and religion get mixed up
