Petrobas Brazil
Obama just gave a boat load of money to Brazil to help their government run oil company Petrobas, explore offshore drilling in their country. Now why would Obama do that? Because George Soros bought a ton of of stock in Petrobas months ago. In fact, Petrobas is the number one asset in Soros' hedge fund. Good old fashioned political paybacks. Let me call my broker...

Getlive, I know you're new to posting at The Aurora but it would be helpful if you provided a link. All I can find is that Soros has purchased Petroleo Brasileiro.
Petroleos De Venezuela, from what I've been able to find, is state-owned. It seems unlikely that George Soros or anyone could buy stock in it. Soros does own stock in Petrobas in Brazil. Did you mean Brazil?

gary and obama have a problem with offshore drilling in the U.S. because it's bad for the environment. how is it good for teh environment in brazil but bad here?....hmmmmm.... could it be that obama knows the environmental argument is bullshit? notice i didn't say gary, because gary is a true believer.

I did edit the post so it's correct now. The point is that it's politics as usual, which the libs love to point out about their opposing side but not about their own side. Seriously though, the Export-Import Bank says that the decision to loan, not give, Brazil the money was unanimous and was made by Bush appointees.
As for the drilling issue, I am opposed to drilling here. We urgently need to get off fossil fuel not drill for more. Brazil however is a sovereign country.

i guess it's more important to kill babies than to save the earth from global warming.

All of a sudden you're the Joker? It's funny what concerns you. This week we learned for sure that the Bush administration pressured Tom Ridge to declare a code orange alert for political reasons. The CIA Inspector General report on torture is coming out. Crazies are comparing our President to Hitler. And the Export-Import Bank is loaning money to Brazil. And you can be sure that loan benefits the banking interests more than it does Brazil.
OK, I'm glad I'm here to pull both of you back to the post. Is it right for US policy to drill off Brazil and not off Texas or Florida? Why is it OK for us (no pun intended) to drill off Brazil and not off shore in the US? It just seems like gary is ok with destroying other countries shoreline instead of the US shoreline because gary in on the SIDE and not on the ISSUE. What concerns you gary? The environment or the democratic agenda?
OK, I'll answer that. I am concerned with the environmental costs of drilling off Brazil too, but I don't live in Brazil. I actually live not too far from the Pacific Ocean so naturally I'm more concerned with where I live. Also Brazil is a sovereign country and we can't tell them what to do, although we don't have to pay for it.

If indeed you believe it is contributing to global warming and destroying the environment like you say, and if you still believe as you did a month ago that we have to make radical changes or else there will be catastrophic consequences then you should be outraged that the president is using your tax dollars to finance it.

Now you want to stay on topic, after bringing up baby-killing? OK, the money to Brazil is a loan not a gift, and no I don't like the idea of helping them drill off their coast, but I haven't examined the subject in depth and there may be some political/economic reasons to loan them money. There is no evidence this is related to paying off George Soros. The Export-Import board consists mostly of Bush appointees and their decision was unanimous, so it probably has more to do with relations with Brazil or their constituency, the bankers.

The CURRENT president has the power to stop the loan to Brazil no matter who's political appointee's decide it's a good idea.
Whether or not there's a political/economic reason to loan them the money isn't the point. There's pleanty of economic reasons to drill in the U.S. but the president says we have to sacrifice for the good of the planet. Clearly his political/economic reasons are more important than saving the planet.
