Ok is the body cold enough yet? Can we finally now admit the truth that the Tet Offensive was an unmitigated disaster and military failure for the Viet Cong despite what Cronkite said? He called it wrong and he called it on the side that was against America. Biggest moment in his career and he called it wrong.
Great guy besides that. Let the parades begin.

great guy besides that?
i'm not so sure you can have a "besides that" in this situation.
Did I mention his dancing?
Seriously, as much as I was disgusted by the MJ coverage, at least Jacko had some real accomplishements before he shit the bed and perved out with kids. Cronkite's accomplishement? He was one of 3 white guys reading the news, and to reiterate....he got it wrong.
Besides that, a nice fella.
he had an agenda.
and he had a lot of power
Whats kinda funny about it is, during Iraq and Afgan, every lib wanted their "Cronkite" moment declaring American defeat. FIFTEEN DEAD IN ANBAR ITS A QUAGMIRE. They dont say so much now. Kinda funny.
How was the Tri? Did D race?
D did not show up.
I was 2 minutes slower than last year. not happy about it but i'm so busy with work i haven't had time to train the way i used to.
next race is in august.
everybody has an agenda. you should know that by now.
Sure I can admit that Tet was a military failure for the other side. It did show that they still had quite a lot of fight left in them, but militarily it was a failure. Now can you admit, as even McNamara did, that the whole Vietnam War was a mistake?
what's the deal with you and your admitting things? I don't think JFK's war was a mistake, and in fact if you know your history you know that it DIDN'T show that they had any fight left in them and was a last ditch effort because they knew they were done. They were completely crushed and ready to give up when cronkite told his lie to the American people. If the internet had existed then i truly believe cronkite would be just another dan rather. fired and disgraced for being a liar and a fraud.
I do think it was a mistake to pull out like a bunch of pussies though.
I don't think JFK would have quit while ahead.
JFK would not have committed combat troops in my opinion. I do think he would have got out.
The other side was not willing to "give up" when Cronkite made his statement. You cannot produce ANY evidence of that, because there is none.
ok gary.
do some homework from now on before you address me. i know you're not working right now so you should have some time on your hands.
You made the claim. Where is the evidence that the other side was ready to give up? And I hope it's not that phony General Giap quote.
Like I thought. No evidence.
gary you crow so early. I actually work for a living. i don't count on the tax payer to pay my rent and feed my children.
here's the actual quote.
"We paid a high price [during the Tet offensive] but so did you [Americans]... not only in lives and materiel.... Do not forget the war was brought into the living rooms of the American people. ... The most important result of the Tet offensive was it made you de-escalate the bombing, and it brought you to the negotiation table. It was, therefore, a victory....
The war was fought on many fronts. At that time the most important one was American public opinion."
I have heard the "phony" quote many times myself. I don't think it's really to difficult to figure out where it came from. they used people like cronkite, kerry, and jane fonda to turn public opinion in the U.S. TET was a complete and utter disaster for the commies. they were devastated militarily and psychologically.
they were rescued by the traitors mentioned above.
it's ok gary. don't be embarrassed. everybody knew i would slap you around.
however i would like to suggest that in the future you should seriously do some homework first before you challenge me. i'm starting to feel bad about beating you up all the time. it's like slapping a woman.
OK, and where in that quote does the general say that they were ever ready to "give up?"
Giap on Tet:
Q: Was your Têt offensive in 1968 a failure?
Giap: As far as we're concerned, there's no such thing as a purely military strategy. So it would be wrong to speak of Têt in purely military terms. The offensive was three things at the same time: military, political, and diplomatic. The goal of the war was de-escalation. We were looking to de-escalate the war. Thus, it would have been impossible to separate our political strategy from our military strategy. The truth is that we saw things in their entirety and knew that in the end, we had to de-escalate the war. At that point, the goal of the offensive was to try to de-escalate the war.
Q: And did the de-escalation succeed?
Giap: Your objective in war can either be to wipe out the enemy altogether or to leave their forces partly intact but their will to fight destroyed. It was the American policy to try and escalate the war. Our goal in the '68 offensive was to force them to de-escalate, to break the American will to remain in the war....
We did this by confronting them with repeated military, as well as political and diplomatic victories. By bringing the war to practically all the occupied towns, we aimed to show the Americans and the American people that it would be impossible for them to continue with the war. Essentially, that's how we did it.
Any by the way, one could make a case for Fonda being guilty of treason. To accuse Cronkite or Kerry of treason is is ignorant.
From Time magazine:
Ho's brilliant commander, General Vo Nguyen Giap, told me in Hanoi in 1990, his principal concern had been victory. When I asked him how long he would have resisted the U.S. onslaught, he thundered, "Twenty years, maybe 100 years — as long as it took to win, regardless of cost."
Like I said the other side in Vietnam was never close to giving up.
gary just admit that you're wrong.
do you really believe tet was about de-escalation? that's the goal going in? "hey guys we can't win but lets waste all these soldiers and all these resouces that we can't afford so the U.S. will de-escalate"
yeah ok.
Finally, Cronkite might have just been stupid, so maybe he didn't mean to help the enemy, however fonda and kerry actually committed treason.
i think they should both have been hanged and while we're at it they should have thrown ted kennedy in jail for murder. but you know rich people get away with murder as long as they're libs so that's that.
oh and the japs weren't about to surrender either until they did.
now we're done.
just move on to something else. i get the last word because it's my blog and because you bring nothing to the table except ignorance.
